Personal Essay: Why I Play Baseball

Ding! The sound of when you hit the baseball. When the crowd starts yelling, and cheering. When you run to first base looking to turn to second base, and then you slide into second and the umpire calls you safe. The feeling of joy and happiness, for me that is baseball.
I do this because it is a hobby, and it is one of my favorite things to do. If you make a play, that is one of the best feelings I could feel. I do this with my team go out and play baseball, try our hardest, play to win, and have fun the whole time. Under the lights at night on the baseball field with your head up to hit the ball way out in the outfield, or be fielding, and ready to make the play. This is why I play baseball.

I cut through the air as if the ball was ripping each particle to shreds. I ran as fast as I could punching my foot off of each base, ready for the next one. Just as I thought the ball was going over the fence, it hits the top and rolls over to the center fielder. This makes me run harder. The adrenaline is pumping through my body as my legs and arms are working together to build my momentum.…

From that day on, starting each spring for nine years, I was outside practicing to be the best player I could be. Still to this day, even though I don’t play baseball anymore, nothing comes close to the energy and excitement I get from a baseball diamond because my body becomes full of energy, my mind begins to replay player’s actions and nothing seems to break my mind and focus on winning the game. Walking up to the gate my heart starts beating…

I am going to be taking about baseball. I will talk about why I like it better than any other sport. I think baseball requires more mental abilities than physical because you have to be able to read pitches and you have to be able to read the batter and you have to read the ball when it comes off the bat. Baseball does require physical health to because you have to be able to hit hard, throw accurate and fast, and you have to be able to run and catch a ball if it comes to you. I like baseball better than any other sport because I think it challenges you more.…

At 6:00 we started to field ground balls, The field was dry and it was a little bit rocky so the ball would take weird bounces. Don’t even get me started about the outfield, The outfield had long grass, little holes and the ball would take weird hops just like the infield. Then we started to play six out baseball, nothing really happened till the third round when my team was up to bat. I hit a line shot that one hoped to the fence. I was first and the feeling came back to me.…

All throughout one’s life, you must encounter obstacles, face adversity head on, and keep your head high all the while. Thankfully, as a child, I wasn’t always alone in completing tasks or accomplishing things. My friends, family, and people around me in life were quite often to help me, but there were times that I had to accomplish things on my own. As I grew up, I began to hate asking people for help, and I wanted to try things for myself. I felt like it was cheating to ask for help, because in life after high school, aren’t you usually having to do things by yourself?…
