Personal Essay: What Motivates Me?

Introduction
Ever wonder what motivates an individual? Well, I just found out what motivates me. I have just completed an assessment called “What Motivates Me?” This motivation is based on Alderfer 's ERG theory. This theory states that there are three elementary needs an employee seeks to achieve. As one need is achieved, it serves as motivation to achieve a different need. These three elementary needs are growth, relatedness, and existence. Study.com states that “Existence is the need for basic material existence, like physiological health and safety. Relatedness is the need for interpersonal connections, social status and recognition. Growth is the need for personal development, including creative and meaningful work.” In this paper,

I was always asking questions about the business, so I can acquire some fundamental knowledge. I would always volunteer to help management in daily activities; I would always aid other associates where it seemed fit, and I attempted to carry myself as a superior in the organization. With all that effort behind me, I garnered my initial promotion in the Old Navy Organization. I can also recall working on satisfying my relatedness needs. In this situation, I always attempted to get recognitions from my superiors. For instance, I thrived to be the number one seller of Old Navy credit cards, and eventually I succeeded. My superiors started to call me king Jermaine. I will say my pass has definitely aided my current …show more content…
Base on my recollection, my thought process was to be the best I can be; consequently, I would be recognized in the organization. With that said, my behavior definitely portrayed my thoughts. As I said in my response, I was aiding all my coworkers when fit, and I was always volunteering to help management in daily activities. This behavior certainly helped me succeed, and I eventually got recognized in the organization with that first promotion. Furthermore, it is uncanny how parallel my actual situation is with the assessment scores. My growth needs almost tip the scale at a high eighteen points which renders me substantially unsatisfied; my relatedness needs also lands on the high side at sixteen points which renders me unsatisfied, and my existence needs tip the scale at an perfect twenty points which renders me substantially unsatisfied. These scores affirm my situation. These scores illustrated that I am not satisfied in the growth, relatedness or existence category, and my situation
