Vacation Gone Wrong It was the summer of 2014, My parents, my brother, and I decided that we were going to spend our summer vacation out west. Our destinations were to be Las Vegas for fireworks, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and The Grand Canyon. We were going to fly from Saint Louis into Vegas, rent a car, drive to all of our destinations and return to Las Vegas to fly back home to St. Louis. This was to be a seven day trip. Our trip started off without a hitch, we arrived at the airport on time, Navigated through the airport, boarded the plane, and the first leg of the flight was great. Here is where the madness starts. Second leg of the flight from Dallas to Las Vegas had a three hour delay. We arrived late at the car rental place, they …show more content…
If I remember correctly, the shows were about acrobats and extreme biking. After the shows, our rental car was delivered to us. We packed lunch and loaded up the car to go to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. It was like 100 degrees, Hoover Dam was packed, water levels were low, so we decided to have lunch at Lake Mead and go swimming. When we went swimming we realized that Lake Mead was a sulfur mud lake. We decided to have a mud fight while we were swimming. After swimming, we went to the beach house bathroom to get cleaned up and change clothes. When I went in the bathroom I headed to the first stall and changed clothes in there. After I changed clothes, I went to open the door to the stall and it was locked from the outside so I had to climb over the stall and then washed my hands in the sink. As I wiped off my moist hands I was walking to go outside at the same time. When I pulled open the door my foot was right under it and the bottom of the jagged sharp steel door sliced open the top of my foot between my big toe and my middle toe. My adrenaline was so high that I think I was in shock. At the time I didn’t know I was cut nor that I was bleeding out. I thought and felt that I had just stubbed my toe really hard. As I was limping on the sidewalk my mom had met me in between the guys and girls bathroom, she said every time I took a step there was a puddle of blood. She grabbed her beach towel, laid me down on my back, wrapped my foot up tight with the towel, and yelled for my Dad to call the ambulance. I was panicking and told my mom I had stubbed my toe really. There were puddles of blood everywhere I hobbled around, it was awful. In a matter of like 2 minutes the ambulance was there and helped. Those 2 minutes felt like 2 whole days. I was getting so nauseous because I had lost so much blood. The paramedic cleaned out the cut which was so deep you could see muscle and bone and almost all the way through

I was still on the trampoline when I heard an employee yell to get me off the trampoline, so my mom and sister helped me to my feet. As soon as I put pressure on my left leg I knew something horrible happened to my leg, so I looked down and almost blacked out again, but my mom was holding me tight and wouldn’t let me slip to the ground. As my mom and sister, half carried, half dragged me off to the side of the trampoline, I said a silent prayer that this would be over…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

I was smiling the whole time as the skin around my neck was being ripped off. Well I wasn’t actually smiling and as brutal as I made it sound, it wasn’t as horrific an event now that I look back on it. The incident occurred while I was on Spring Break during my freshman year in high school. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee;which if I might add we’ve been there about eight times since I was seven years old. I remember clearly that day down to the exact temperature.…
