.The Value of Life Everyone has their own unique way of viewing life, some may cherish it and others may want to dispose of it because it has no meaning to them. The ones who do not see any value in life are ones who have not yet discovered his/her true calling or purpose. Those people tend to be pessimistic, negative, and hopeless when dealing with everyday life and the situations in life. On the other hand, ones who do see the value in life are very optimistic, hopeful, and positive of what life has to offer. Putting a numerical value on a person is depraved and insulting. It basically says that one is worth more money wise because of what that individual did for a living. Kenneth Feinberg, Washington attorney who specializes in alternative dispute resolutions and managed the compensation funds for the September 11, 2001 attacks, found himself in an internal situation he had a hard time coping with. Trained by the law, he had to give more money to the stockbroker, bond trader, and banker than to the waiter, policeman, fireman, and soldier, he had to accept that no two lives were worth the same in financial terms. That is until he had to compensate funds again, but this time for the Virginia Tech shootings and the death of thirty-two people. This is where he could not hold up his training with the law and said, “And I realized that Feinberg the citizen should trump Feinberg the lawyer.”(Feinberg 1) Which basically means that he should stand up to what he believes in and to stop thinking the way he was told to. “I believe that public compensation should avoid financial distinctions which only fuel the hurt and grief of the survivors.”(Feinberg 2) Putting a dollar sign on someone’s head is a horrible idea, it says that one is worth more than someone else is. Imagine telling someone that the other person is better than your relative that just died because he was a lawyer and their relative was a McDonald’s …show more content…
Illness and suffering does impact how we should view life. There is not someone who is greater than someone else, only difference between you and the rest of the world is determination, the dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing, that is all that makes us different. As for the value of life the only one who can truly answer what it means is yourself. The value of life should be to cherish every moment one has and to make the best out of everything. We only live once, but once is enough if we do it

Edward O. Wilson demonstrates many examples of satire in his book The Future of Life (2002). He uses satire to ensure that readers understand that he is not truly talking about environmentalists and anti-environmentalists. Wilson’s satire is evident in this work in the way that he portrays the government, uses unprofessional diction, and use similar argumentative methods. The two passages are seemingly portraying the ‘environmentalists’ versus the ‘anti-environmentalists’, Wilson uses satire to portray the American Government.…

Many people have asked themselves am i worth more than another human being or how can you measure ones life with money? We like to say we are all equal but we know in many cases lives are not held as equal when it comes down to it in life or death situations. In these situations people unknowingly compare themselves to another in how valuable they are compared to another human being when we are all made of the same flesh. People will ask what makes you better than me or your life more valuable than mine? Personally i believe there is much more to the value of someones life than just numbers but that shouldn’t matter because we are all human, we have feelings, we have family, so how can one’s life be worth more than another.…

Life is simply perspective. Some say that you have your whole life to do something, while others will argue that life is short and you should enjoy it to the full extent of it’s worth. You can look at something as exquisite, or atrocious. It doesn’t change what it is, but it changes your reaction to it. No matter how sure you are about the morality, someone else could view it differently.…

Sometime, I believe the existence of life is just a tragedy. It is not what happening to my life or to those around me that effecting me deeply – it is the external forces that I have no control over or the inability for me to make a different to the situation. Every day, I see bad things happen in the world, especially the thing that happen to the innocent children and the unborn babies. Granted, not all babies are cute or healthy when they were born, but nonetheless, they are innocents. Why do they have suffered at the hand of the adults: the one that created them, the one that meant to take care of them, the one that support to sacrifice for them?…

When one starts to argue with the concept of life, it is often because the individual does not find any joy on how to live their own life. If one questions their purpose, worry about if their contributions to society will become meaningless or the fear of no one appreciating them for who they are, it is guaranteed to bring a wide range of emotions that will affect the way of how the individual perceives his/her own character. The notion of someone losing their drive to face obstacles and challenges due to the fact that life never had a meaning is directly tied to a concept that is referred to as “existentialism” – the idea that the universe does not provide any meaning or purpose in one’s lives, as it is required for people to take responsibility…

People will never know the true definition of the value of life because each and every person has different perspectives. For example, Hamlet, a pessimist by nature, chose to contemplate suicide due to the overwhelming pain in his life, while Ebert and Jobs had much more positive outlooks on their lives despite their devastating predicaments. All three men have something valuable to offer to the discussion regarding the value of life. Hamlet, a human being that loathes life and scrutinizes suicide, questions life after death. 1. Are people determined or do we have free will? While some stories and philosophers may believe that one’s destiny is something that is already decided and set out for them, I personally disagree. It was Albert Einstein who said that the only way to live life was as though everything is a miracle. It is a miracle that I am able to walk from my bed and see the sunlight through my window. A life well lived is a life which has affected many other people in positive ways, but also a life in which dreams and goals are sought after with no fear or hesitation. A well lived life is also one that has been done with good intentions and positive perspectives.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door. As a mother, partner, educator, and entrepreneur I strive to be mindful, spiritual, and conscious of all my actions. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
