Personal Essay: The Trip Of A Lifetime

The airport in France was where everyone met for the first time. There was forty five of us total, plus five leaders. About half of us were from all over Minnesota, and the other half were from Michigan. We were awkward at first, no one knew anyone. The worst part was we were assigned roommates for the night. I liked both of mine, but we were still complete strangers sharing a room. Over the first few …show more content…
We saw Trinity College, Phoenix Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Croke Park, and some other attractions. During the days we toured Dublin, we all got to stay with Irish host families. My family was great, they had two sons, whom we played Uno with late into the night every evening. We hardly keep in touch anymore, but I’ll never forget about my Irish family. Our time together was almost up, so we made the best of it on our long bus ride to the Killarney, where we went on a boat ride through mountain lakes and then even got to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the Gap of Dunloe. Ireland was almost as beautiful as

While I may have been raised in a small town in North Carolina and C.S. Lewis raised in Ireland, we both came to experience a great moment in both of our lives that had a lot of similarities. He was born in 1898 and I was born in 1998, I came in this world right at a year after he did. The amount of change that happened in the world during that time did not change the same key components of family, nature, and beauty that were all used in both of our special events. My experience with the Blyde River Canyon, was extremely similar to C.S. Lewis’s experience with the Toy Garden. My moment came when I was taken on a trip to south africa with my grandparents and my two younger cousins.…

My Irish heritage has been a central focus of my life for as long as I can remember, dictating the stories I hear, the food I eat, and the way I act. Every one of my ancestors hailed from Ireland on both my mother’s and my father’s sides of the family. My father’s family hails from County Kerry, and my mother’s from Counties Offaly and Mayo. When his parents came to New York City, they had already met in Ireland, so when my great grandfather left for America to find work, my great grandmother Lucy Finnerty followed him over.…
