Personal Essay: The Sport Of Twirling

For five years, my sport of choice has been twirling. From trying out eighth grade year to earning and being recognized for many medals and awards, twirling continually grows as my passion. This extracurricular sport has been a great attribute to my life. As a twirler I have earned several medals, achieved great things, and learned important values. Beginning in high school I competed in UIL twirling solo and ensemble. Every year I advanced to state at regionals in both my solo and ensemble, giving me a total of eight regional twirling medals. I also earned two UIL silver medals for my solos in 2015 and 2016 at UIL state competition in Austin. While being successful at UIL competitions I also compete at SWTA and have won several trophies in different divisions. These prestigious awards could not have been eared without great dedication and practice. Through twirling, I have achieved much success in a variety of areas. Spending a large amount of time with small group has caused me to possess skills of communication, comforting, and discipline. Constant communication is an essence when teaching because it can lead to utter confusion when not used. It can also be used to deal with personal matters or to help comfort people. Comforting is a difficult situation, especially when dealing with teenage emotions. requiring maturity, friendliness, and great listening skills, comforting is a difficult skill that many individuals lack. Another skill few teenagers have is discipline. Discipline is required to learn new skills and stay on task at practice. Many practices are held without a sponsor, and in order to accomplish anything one must act responsibly. These values contributed greatly for my maturity and other
