Personal Essay: The Psychological Effects Of Pornography

That is the first part in the psychological aspect of what pornography can do. The next step however is the worst part for us. When these well-worn paths get traveled down more often than not men tend to masturbate and in the result of this we have the same response as we would with having sex. These chemicals can have a negative impact on our lives as a result of this. The first of five chemicals is testosterone. Testosterone is the sex drive hormone and we use this to enable our sex drive to heighten our sexual anticipation. The next one is dopamine which helps us to focus intensely on the images we are viewing. Another chemical is norepinephrine which gives us our adrenaline while masturbating. Oxytocin is a tranquilizer that helps us to deal with stress and the pressures of life. Last is serotonin which helps us with calmness and to self-medicate and escape the pressures of stress (Struthers). With all these chemicals being released we start using this as a way to escape life and the stress we might have. This in turn aids in the addiction we get to pornography for a number of reasons. The first is we like to experience the rush of it. We also like to feel like we can escape the life that we are living and have a good time. With looking at porn you are breaking the laws of God. God is your heavenly Father and when you look at porn you are breaking His heart. He is your Father, He made you in His own image and likeness. God created us with dignity, value, worth, and purpose. When we stray from these characteristics we hurt our relationship with God. We put up a barrier between him and us because we put pornography up on a pedestal and we treat it like an idol. We worship pornography rather than worshipping God, who deserves our worship and is the only way we can get rid of our addiction to
