Personal Essay: The Importance Of Prejudice In My Life

Improved Essays
When I was three years old, my parents sent me to a kindergarten where majority of its students are Malays. As far as I could remember, there were Arabs too but very few. It was a nice kindergarten, I must say. For four years my life revolved around a situation where my social circle was limited to those who had similar physical traits as mine, worshipped the same God as I do, spoke the same language and ate the same type of food.
At seven years of age, I moved on to a primary school in Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. It was an upgrade I looked forward to. I remember my mum driving me to school on my first day. I was so excited to finally be able to wear my pinafore out of the house! She stood by my side throughout the whole school session that day

A racist was once an innocent child brought up to hate others simply for the different lifestyle others lead instead of embracing the variety uniqueness we all have. Racism must be fought. We must never bow down to such calls.
I believe that those who spur hatreds are those who forget that beneath the skins, we are all human beings with feelings.
I believe that an inclusive and tolerant society will only be achievable when despite the fact that you and I don’t share mutual opinions, we are still able to care for one another on humanitarian grounds. This quality needs to be nurtured at a young age.
I believe that children are the greatest example of pure innocence. As the ones grooming them, we must teach them to appreciate their culture and beliefs but also, not forget to teach them to understand that the world is home to so many others too and thus, they must respect the differences we share.
Let them explore the joy of befriending people of the world. While they may be curious about why John’s skin is fairer than Kumar or why Wong Mei Choo has slanted eyes, they know better not to let those issues come in the way of the adventures of playing hide and seek and giving each other silly nicknames and of course, battling in the eraser

The chapter begins with the historic achievement of Barack Obama and ends with the differing circumstances/perceptions of the Rev. Jesse Jackson and his son Congressman Jesse Jackson III. After graduating high school, I stepped away from the social class grade school had created. I distanced myself from people who had no drive for what could be, and lack of competence of what surrounds them. I strove to discover more in the realm of self realization and shine a light on the depths true beneficial interaction. Through this change of mind set I have since discovered that religion, ethnicity, political footing, and social class can be seen as social barriers. What matters, in my opinion, upon interacting with anyone is to reveal an honest, wholehearted compassion to understand what lies behind the social labels and portray cognition to discover the other party's true character.…

Ismail Guled Mr. Wynn-William ENG4C April 12,2018 Race Issues Racism is part of human nature; we all judge the environment and people living in it through a personal lens. Therefore, our opinions on people are shaped by our views and values, which naturally leads to preferences to some over others(Dict,_). Racism by definition means “discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior”. Racism comes in different types of forms such as Individual,Institutional, Cultural and Scientific and it has been known to influence wars, slavery, the formation of nations, legal codes and even known to break up families (Adl,2016).Many cultures have begun to fight racism by banning racist beliefs…

One of the major ongoing problems in the United States is racism and discrimination. This dates all the way back to when Native Americans or Indians were forced to migrate to other lands by the Europeans. In this society, every minority, mainly African Americans, Native Americans, Islamic and Muslim people, are the target of some type of discrimination and unfairness. Unfortunately, it is only getting worse. Since the time of the Trail of Tears, this type of discrimination has changed.…

I agree with all of the prejudice theories. In fact most of them are connected. For instance if you are from a low income family or community where racism is high, then you will be more inclined to see other races as rivals for your job. This in turn creates frustration which then causes you to search for a scapegoat. Now what caught my attention the most was the example for the functionalist theory.…

Prejudice is defined as "a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience". As I sit back and think about this question I feel as if I am prejudiced towards a lot of things. As I wrote down my feelings and thoughts on groups of people I really started to think. I think everyone has some form of prejudice in them, and if they said no they would be lying. Things I find myself prejudice about are: Muslims, LGBT, illegal immigrants and democrats.…

Prejudice Is Not a Joke As a culture we tend to believe that because we have made great progress socially, we are no longer dealing with the struggles of racism and other forms of prejudice. If you were to ask any given person on the street about their views on prejudice towards another based on the color of their skin or their sexuality, people would give you great answers of how it’s reserved for those who are truly evil and hate other cultures, people who speak freely about their disdain. There is a fair amount of chance that at some point in that same person’s life they have told a joke or said something with prejudicial context. Prejudice is extremely prevalent in today’s society, and it can be found on the tongues and in the minds of the majority of people around us whether they hold hated against other cultures or not. As a society we are being far too lenient with some very derogatory actions because we dress them as jokes or claim that one group of people has the right to use a slur because of their race, and this frame of mind is the cause of much controversy.…

The Roots of Racism Today, racism is one of the most commonplace issues amongst western societies. It is the force which keeps humanity behind and the obstruction that prevents humanity from moving forward. Based on recent events, discrimination is more severe now than during the peak of the civil rights movement. While being prejudicial can strengthen the identity of a group, the pursuance of lessening the impact racism has on the prosperity of the people is becoming increasingly essential. Stereotyping, the vast support of collectivism over individualism, and fruitless socialization lead to the division of races, accordingly the investigation of bigotry and racism is imperative.…

Today we live in a very cultural and ethnically world that embraces our differences. Because of the different beliefs and social practices that are not considered socially acceptable, people are sometimes discriminated against (Feenstra, 2013). Stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination are similar, but yet very different (Fiske, 2010).…
