Personal Essay: The Game Of Golf

A year ago, I hardly knew anything about golf when I took a job at a pro shop. Golf to me was just a game you went out and played with your buddies over a few colds one at some country club. I had no idea how the club was made, how the game was supposed to be played, or how much actual science was incorporated into every single thing you did on the course. But after just one year at my new job, I was promoted to Department Manager. So I guess you could say that I’m the Tiger Woods of golf knowledge, but still play like I’m Alex Lindsay. Golf is a game of patience. It’s a game of precession. At my job I work on golf clubs daily. While at a course in Georgia called Augusta National with my boss, I was taught how every single hole created on a course is to test a golfer in every single one of his abilities. The slope of every green has to be to a certain degree so that ball can roll a certain speed towards the hole without being disrupted by the wind or the literal glass blades used to make the green. A golfers swing has so many different aspects to fit his body and his body alone, that it can take years for some to be able to find their very own and be good at it. Plus, when you do find it you have to be able to use your surroundings and abilities to make sure that even when you place your ball on the tee in the box that you know where the wind lies compared to the slope dividing both of those variables with the grass and how far it will roll on which side of the fairway. It can be so confusing, but when you have someone explain it to you and you can see their passion for the game, it can change the way you go for the
