The buzzing sound of the lights slowly turning on, and it had an old scent to it, the scent of when you walk into an old house or the smell of leather. I had no idea what to expect or what I would be getting myself into. My mom accompanied me, partly because she was my coach at the time. Thankfully she was there or else I would’ve gone into panic mode. When I was younger I was not that outgoing, unlike now anyways, I am very outgoing. I was very shy, so stepping into a gym with a ton of other kids like me was very terrifying. Once I had settled in and everyone was gathered into the gym, we made a circle and everyone had to say their names just so everyone could meet …show more content…
I had a passion for them. Along with basketball, I played soccer, volleyball, and did gymnastics. I had only participated in gymnastics for four years because I decided not to continue because I enjoyed the more competitive sports. I continued to play volleyball until my 6th grade year until I found it not so interesting. Soccer and basketball were a big part of my …show more content…
I got involved with summer and club teams and was busy 24/7. There came a point where I had to choose one of the two. I had to be committed to one that I would dedicate the next few years of my life to and willing to put in the work. Something about basketball hit me. I had fallen in love with the game. Just the feeling of being on a court playing with my friends and getting to show what I could do and compete just filled my heart with ecstasy. So, I had quit soccer to play the game I was in love with, because I was not able to attend both soccer and basketball all year round. Therefore, I chose the sport at which I had more passion for. I had now entered high school. It was my freshman year. I was as nervous as could be, just like I was when I was younger. Elementary school basketball and high school basketball are two completely different things. I knew what challenge I had ahead of me, and I was ready to take it on. The end of my freshman year was actually a really good year for me. I had my first experience with varsity basketball and I also learned what I had to do to better myself and reach my goal. Not only had I been playing for my school team at the time, but I was also involved in a club team. I play basketball all year

As a senior captain, I was given the opportunity to visit the local elementary and middle schools throughout the year to coach and mentor girls that wanted to play basketball in high school. It occurred to me that I had been in their shoes not too long before. I remembered how much I admired the varsity team when I was a younger and how I would have done anything to be just like them. At this point, I realized that though it was still important to me to win games and advance towards the goal of a state title, I had been given the chance to be an example for these girls just as the previous varsity team had been for me; and that is what really…
