The Fall I'll Never Forget

It was a bright, hot, and sticky summer day in 2009 and I have just woken up seeing my bright blue room and my loving dog Ragz. I had just begun with my morning activities, which included looking out my window and seeing the beautiful, glimmering, blue sky with its fluffy, white clouds. Although it was well over 90 degrees in my house felt like it had all its doors open and it was in the middle of winter. My mom also had just woken up along with my dad and they were both slouched on the cough. My mother being herself woke up in a good, energetic, happy mood and had her daily cup of tea with her cup that we got her for her last birthday which had a picture of whinny the poo on it. My dad being himself was grumpy,

But, I knew I was getting too excited and to energetic for this dinner, I knew I was running around too much, but I couldn't stop myself from doing this. As I was watching my mother grill from my back porch, I dozed off, thinking about this dinner. As I came back i found myself tipping off the side of my porch, but by then it was too late. I couldn't stop myself from falling, I fell the full 4 feet from my back-porch face down to the hard, rough, and sharp concreate. I could smell the dinner that was exposed to be my special dinner on the grill. All I could see was the concreate feet from my face. Finally, I hit the ground face first on to the ground. I tasted the cement and it tasted salty and dry. As I got up my mom, loving to overreact, started freaking out and she screamed for my dad. As my dad came running out I was balling my eyes out with embarrassment and pain. The was no tears, it felt like a stream going down both sides of my face. My dad reinsured me that I was tough and I would survive. I was cared for what felt like hours. After all the care and a doctor visit I went to bed, but before I fell asleep I said to myself "Wow, I thought I was always safe at my home." I always thought that I could never get hurt at home. But after that day I knew the

It was a sweltering day in the summer of 2009. The dawn of the day started like any other day, with the rising sun and the bright blue sky; however, it ended like no other day. I woke up to the sounds of chatter that came from downstairs. It was noisier than usual because we had family from California and Canada over at our house. This happened due to the fact that our two-story house had unoccupied rooms, but there was an influx of people, so my brother and I had to surrender the room that we shared and sleep in our parents’ room.…

The sun has just begun to set on the non-descript American plains. A narrator speaks with a voice that once likely held thunder in its grip, but has since shrunk with age. He speaks a different language, and for a sequence of moments, his voice becomes the consciousness of nature, as the images on the screen give a sampling of every conceivable natural wonder: everything from the simplest of categories, water, wind, fire, earth, to the most sturdy and majestic lakes and mountains. This voice is intimately aware of how the natural world has affected the protagonist, with whose story he is charged; a story he treasures. He tells the tale of the young boy who grew to be like a son to him, Tristan Ludlow, and the family he observed and befriended.…

As part of my studies for my EPQ I began to research independently into schizophrenia and mental health issues which I had. I chose to study a novel ‘The Shock of the fall’ in which the protagonist suffers from schizophrenia and the author is a Mental Health Nurse. I was intrigued to read about the thought process and when researched into the neuro pathways of a schizophrenic which had enlightened me to the challenging effects of the illness. Furthermore, whilst studying English Literature I was engrossed by the concept of the Oedipus complex, whilst reading the novel ‘Room’, using this as the centre of my coursework I researched into the more elaborate beliefs of Freud’s theories involving both the physiological and psychological developments…

It’s September 18th, 2016, and my nana and I are both sitting on my bed in which the sheets were still removed from getting washed earlier that day. She has short hair as dark as chocolate, and brown, loving eyes with circular gold frames around them that watched me as I prepared my questions. She had her signature coral lipstick on that she always wore so well. It’s an overcast, yet mildly warm day with the kind of clouds that are a smokey gray with a dash of sunlight emerging from behind them. In the background, the sounds of my family along with Seahawks game coming from the living room was undeniable.…
