Playing sports has always been my passion, I love everything about it. But one thing has always stood in my way; my size. I’ve never been the tallest person in a crowd and most of the time I am one of the shortest people in the room. I never imagined that this could hold me back from something that I love so much and could possibly make my dreams of playing collegiate softball unreachable. I first began playing softball at only five years old.…

Transgender issues in softball have become increasingly more aware in society, which brings up issues on the rules and regulations pertaining to the game. A transgender person should only be allowed to hit the ball size of their sex designated at birth unless they adhere to the rules and regulations pertaining to the league of choice. According to the United States Specialty Softball Association (USSSA) Official Rulebook, “men are not permitted to compete on women’s teams in USSSA sanctioned events” to ensure the safety of women players. This may seem a bit unfair, but when competing in women’s or coed softball tournaments there is a big difference.…

The baseball diamond has a magical effect on my emotions, which produce so much energy it seems to take over my body and mind. I’ll never forget my first baseball glove and bat. I am going to be taking about baseball. I will talk about why I like it better than any other sport. I think baseball requires more mental abilities than physical because you have to be able to read pitches and you have to be able to read the batter and you have to read the ball when it comes off the bat. Baseball does require physical health to because you have to be able to hit hard, throw accurate and fast, and you have to be able to run and catch a ball if it comes to you. I believe that my application would be incomplete if I did not write about baseball and the countless hours that I have spent working to perfect the craft. Since I was two years old, I have been involved in the game of baseball. I started by being dragged along on trips to my brother’s baseball games, until I was old enough to join a travel baseball team of my own. Almost every weekend since then was spent on the road at a travel baseball tournament, whether it was playing for my team, or watching my older brother’s team. Growing up, my ultimate goal was to receive a scholarship to play baseball at Stanford University, and because of that, I worked tirelessly to keep my grades up to the Stanford standard.…
