I find I am not alone when I speak to my peers about the overall dissatisfaction with my life. I have my health, my loving family and my job allows a comfortable living. I have no reason to be wanting, yet I am sadden to think my life will play out where I fix peoples air conditioning and come home to my satellite TV and comfortable couch.
When I was younger I had a great deal of impatience with the structure of public education. I had no problems understanding the material or passing the tests, however the excruciation of sitting in the hard plastic seat drove me to run off whenever I could

Every day I got up and put job first and devoted all my time and energy to whomever I worked for. I was laid off from several employers, I was never fired so I had that going for me. 8 years ago I found myself once again staring down the barrel of a pink slip. I and twelve other employees started the production of the first 2GB Flash memory for the IPod Nano. We had worked out the bugs of production for it to be moved to a much larger scale in Singapore. I had seen the writing on the wall for some time and new I was going to be on my own again soon so I made the decision to join the military.
27 years old and no better off than when I walked out of high school. I didn’t see the military as a way of fixing my problems. I wasn’t doing out of patriotism, or to fight terrorism, I did it simply to do something else. I had taken a job with the Air Force as a Civil Engineer. Something about the engineering part peaked my interest. I made it through basic and technical training with ease and earned high marks. I entered into the active Air Force and quickly advanced in rank and abilities. For the first two years I was a big fish in a little pond, that’s a pretty sad life I

Prior to beginning the masters of occupational therapy program it was as if I was an ancient wanderer in the dark ages, eager to learn new ideas and discover new places not sure what the world would throw at me next. Over the next eight years I found myself at a series of personal crossroads one encounters during life’s journey. Not the crossroad where one sells their soul to the devil for some magical power. It was more of one of those forks in the road, a kin to the Robert Frost Poem, where one path leads to life A and the other leads to life B. Crossroads that impacted my future, shaped who I am and my character, influenced life changes, which led to a transition that will influence me and my family for generations to come. I come from…

I have been interested in geological sciences since I was a child. Growing up on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, my mother was a member of a heritage and nature group called The Natural Trust Foundation and as a result she would take me along to the different programs and excursions. One moment in particular that stands out to me was a visit to the volcano in Soufriere, located in the southwest part of the island. Just to mention that St. Lucia has the world’s only “drive-in” volcano. Our tour guide was very well informed about the types of energy that can be sourced from this wonderful phenomenon.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

Personal anecdotes and factual evidence are both useful forms of research for an author to portray a message in non-fiction writing. Personal anecdotes offer an easy way to introduce a topic; however, they can quickly lead to a single story in which evidence becomes less important. Technical facts, such as scientific research, statistics, and other data, can easily prove a point, but can also easily lose the interest of the reader. While every writer has their own writing techniques, they must incorporate both facts and stories to create an effective long form article.…
