Personal Essay On Brazil Culture

Throughout my life, I have always been interested in different cultures from my own. I grew up in two worlds—my Colombian life at home and my American life once I stepped outside my house. I always compared the two cultures which I was part of and from those similarities and differences grew my interest in the traditions in the different parts of the world. As I grew older I noticed that one of the countries in south America had one major difference when comparing its culture—Brazil. This country speaks Portuguese due to its history. The language has shaped the country in a different trajectory than other countries in South America. I have explored some of the cultures of Brazil by reading about its history, listening to music in Portuguese and watching various movies set in Brazil. It would give me a different perspective on the way of life. Individuals’ points of view are shaped by their experiences and I would be able to explore that by going to Brazil. There are many social issues in Brazil, but this is speaking from an outsider's perspective. Traveling to Brazil would allow me to speak to the people there and get the perspective of the country. To be able to analyze countries issues a person must understand the country’s history. Brazil is a country with a rich history. It is a diverse country. The culture is a mixture of this history, being able to learn about the culture throughout the country would be relevant to analyzing the issues which face the country. Dr. Medina teaches a class about the culture which would be enriching. Being able to travel through the country to see the different ways those aspects of history interact and reveal themselves today.
