Kant 's concept of "free play" comes to mind as he states that a viewer experiences a sense of aesthetic pleasure in the presence of a piece of art without having a uniquely personal connection to it. There is no connection in the piece to the viewer 's culture, geographical location, or personal preferences and, in a sense, the viewer is coming into the experience with a clean slate without any prior judgments or expectations. Once viewed, the person experiences aesthetic pleasure from the piece and is able to take in all of its elements and forms creating a relationship that is pure and uniquely between it and the viewer. My own personal experience with this concept of disassociation with a piece happened when I encountered Saint Patrick 's Cathedral on a trip to New York. I am not from the area that the structure resides in, I have not attended mass within its walls, nor did I know any of it historical or architectural background, but when I saw it amongst the corporate offices and high-end boutiques, I stopped and stared. Art should be created for no other reason than a need or a want of an artist to express themselves, as an outlet. Art produced under these circumstances is the truest or purest form and had not been tainted by a mandating authority. Artist are given unbridled freedom to create a piece that does not have requirements or being dictated by outside influences on the artist; it is him or her and their imaginative creativity. A viewer is able to feel the passion that was put into the creation process of the finished product as a piece that demonstrates the artist 's true talent. Art created simply to create art allows it be experienced to its fullest emotional potential by both the viewer and the artist. When art is dictated or created for a purpose that the artist does not resonate with, the product reflects that and becomes easily overlooked as being mediocre. True art is given heart and soul by its creator and will stand the test of time because of that
