Personal Essay: My Personal Philosophy Of Leadership

Decent Essays
My personal philosophy of leadership is quite simple, and based upon past and current work experiences, and observations. The U.S. General, H. Norman Schwarzkopf once stated, “Leadership is a combination of strategy and character. If you must be without one, be without the strategy." General Schwarzkopf’s quote pretty much sums up my philosophy of leadership. I think leadership begins and ends with having character. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines character as “the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves: someone's personality; the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual”. Although there are many traits of character, those that stand out the most in my mind are integrity, passion, respect and wisdom.

In a community, being a leader is often difficult due to all the components and struggles that go into being one. A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Throughout my years, I have grown from being a primarily shy person to someone who is not afraid to step up and be the leader I am now. Today, I am able to consistently demonstrate what it is to be a leader in my daily life. Although coming into high school as a freshman was intimidating for me, I knew that in order to succeed, I needed to open up and try something new.…

Philosophy of Leadership Development I have seen different types of leadership development, but in my opinion, leadership that incorporates discipleship is the best way to develop leaders. The Bible demonstrates this kind of leadership. Moses, Nathan, and Jesus use this kind of leadership philosophy. These men took time to allow God to pour into their personal lives and then allowed God to use them to pour into the lives of those He had placed in their lives.…

As a team, we will each work to expand on these characteristics by learning and building on our experiences. When asked: “How did you come to that philosophy, what traits and leadership characteristics do you think are important for a leader to possess and how those apply to your philosophy and the success of your organization?” My philosophy is supported with one of four classic approaches used to define the basic concept of leadership, the transactional approach. This approach tells us that the way one leads is directly attributed to the accumulation of influence to the reciprocal transactions between leaders and followers. Additionally, this philosophy is supported by Abraham Maslow’s theory that once the basic needs of survival and security are met, people concern themselves with higher needs like…

This memorandum describes my vision of leadership. Leadership starts with looking yourself in the mirror for the reflection of what others see and understand when you are leading them. A leader is not only the one who makes people follow him, a leader will understand his people, will care for their well being, will mentor and correct mistakes at the beginning so a punishment is not necessary at the end. A good leader is that person that everyone wants to be when they grew up. A leader not only leads a unit when at work, he leads his family at home, he influences everyone, everywhere, anytime.…
