Personal Essay: My Mother's Side Of My Family

Superior Essays
I do not know much about my family, nor do I talk to most of my family simply for the fact that they live far away and no one has time and because we are not close. My family 's name involves with the Kims and Wicketts. They are both German names. The Wickett name is German, Polish, Swedish, and Irish. The Kim name I believe is fully German. I do in fact know more about the Wicketts than I do Kims. My mom 's side of the family is the Wickett family. I don 't know much about family on this side because we don 't talk to anyone on my mom 's side. I know that both of her grandparents, my greatgrandparents, are dead. I also know that we are related to the Meyers because my grandma 's maiden name was Meyer (I think that is pretty interesting …show more content…
My dad 's dad, Joseph, his wife had died and got married to my grandma Myra. Joseph, who I guess would be my grandpa had two girls and two boys before he married my grandma. After he married my gram, they had my dad. So, because of my dad having stepbrothers and sisters, or however that works, I am related to people that I 'm not actually related to. For example the Sorg family, including Maddie Sorg. We are cousins but we aren 't because she is related to my uncle Joe somehow. All of my family is very confusing and I don 't quite understand all of this even though we talk about my family. Most of my family on my dad 's side live down south in places such as Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. There 's a good possibility that there are more in other places but when we do talk to my dad 's side of the family we talk to those in the states above. I believe everyone on my dad 's side is …show more content…
We see my grandparents and my cousins and aunt and uncle more often than not. My grandparents are usually never home because they always go on vacation after Christmas and then come home for Easter and leave at the end of the school year. My cousin, Logan, is never home anymore mostly because he in college for sports medicine but he is also in the National Guard. Now that his basic training is finished we might be able to see him more, but I do not think so. He was asked to do this really amazing thing, which at the time we were not allowed to talk about for security reasons, but the event is long over so I am able to talk about his opportunity now. What he got to do was be the Pope 's guard when the Pope was in Pennsylvania. I just think that is pretty cool. My other cousin Hunter, is interesting because he only talks to me, some times he will talk to our grandparents but most of time it is just me just me. I could go on and on about stories of my mom 's side because we do so much together. Every Christmas Eve, on the Wickett side, we all used to go to my grandparents 's camp/ home. We always watch Lampoon 's Christmas Vacation every year before opening presents. About two years ago my grandparents sold their camp and moved down into my aunt and uncle 's yard. Our last Christmas in the camp was pretty sad for all of us because of all the memories we made there growing up. (Flashback moment): When they still had the camp all of us kids

What I do know is that my great grandparents on my mom’s side immigrated here from Germany and Wales. However, I find that many of my beliefs, which make me who I am, come from my mom’s family. These beliefs come through in the way in which I treat people. My family on my mom’s side are the kindest, most loving, selfless, and generous people I have ever met. They do not have much, but what they do have, they would gladly give to someone else if they needed it. They have taught me how to see the world with unprejudiced eyes, shown me unconditional love, and have always supported me to be who I am and who I want to be. I cherish these beliefs and strive to do my very best to pass them on to my son, nieces, and future…

I have done the same with my side of the family that more “unconventional.” I don’t want people to know some of the things that goes on in that, so I simply don’t talk about them, the way she didn’t. When I am faced with a situation where I actually have insight on a situation based on the experience I’ve had with this side of the family, I keep my mouth shut. Jeannette explained how she was scared she could lose her job if any of her colleagues were to find out about her parents, the same way I’m sometimes scared I would lose my friends if they knew. I let very few select people know how that side of my family acts, but I would never introduce a new person to them without briefing that person first. The social construct my family has set up is totally different the the one around them. I grew up having to be very dependant on myself. Once I was old enough to work, I was expected to contribute to the family the way an adult would. Although this is very unconventional, it did teach me a very hard work ethic and how to be…

My siblings on my dad’s side are much older than me, i haven’t seen them since I was in elementary school. I don’t know a lot about them, I only remember little parts with Myiah cause she was in my life just for a little while and we didn’t have much time it spend and get to actually know each other. I remember a lot of memories with Aune she was so much fun to be around when I went to my dad’s house. When I went to my dad’s house we would always have fun together. Me and her would always find something to do. When I went to my dad’s house which was most of the time my uncle Leonard's or Aunes moms house, We would always be with my cousins and we would always be up late. It would always be fun because my dad’s side of the family is so loud and there would always be music running throughout the house. Me and my dad always played cards in the kitchen and when me and him won we would dance around the table and sing “we are the champions”, I also remember when I went to his house I would always stand on his feet in the kitchen and we would…

It all started that Thanksgiving of 2013. When my Mom, Brother, Sister, Dad, and I went to my nana and papa’s house at a little place called Murphey Court, at Linden Michigan. When my family and I got there, I saw my “Extended” family, My gg (Great Grandma), Conner, James, Aunt Sue, and my Uncle Steve. While my cousins and I were outside my nana was making the cake while my papa, dad, and mum were playing a game called dig dug. (dig dug was a very old game that was put into a console called a commodore 64)…

Currently, I am living with my family. My family and I are connected biologically and emotionally. I feel that a family can be defined as a group of people (more than one person) whom one can share a connection with and depend on. My immediate family consists of my mother, grandmother, and two siblings. My mother and grandmother raised me. I was raised alongside with my younger half-brother and half-sister. At age two years old, my biological parents divorced. Both parents later remarried. When I was 10 years old, my father died. Technically, I have two half-siblings and a widowed step-mother on the paternal side of the family. However, I do not have any emotional relationship with them. Since my father funeral, I had not seen or spoken to…

My family is from Brooklyn, New York, which is also where the majority of my family currently resides. We have an intricate dynamic that may be confusing to some. On my maternal side, my grandmother had three children, all of which have different fathers. However, they did not see half brother and sister they only saw each other as siblings; our family is heavily blended. My uncle’s siblings on his father’s side also associate themselves as siblings with my aunt and mother. In addition, my grandfather also raised my aunt as his own. About a year, after I was born, my grandmother passed away due to cancer. My entire life, my uncle, and his wife assumed the roles of my maternal…

In my kinship network I have nineteen people including myself. This includes both sets of my grandparents, my parents, step dad, my uncles, all four of my first cousins and my brother. Within my kinship I have my immediate family. I would consider my immediate family to be my mom, my step dad, my brother and me. I have chosen this to be my immediate family for a few different reasons. These people meet all six requirements in order to fit the definition of family. The people who I have named to be in my immediate family, is a group of people who are permanent and who I lived with full time. Jason Traviss is my step dad who is my relative by marriage. Both him and my mother take care of my brother and I. Although my dad is my blood relative…
