My Interpretation of Success
Success can’t be defined by the results but the amount of effort someone puts in his or her goal. Everyone has different interpretations of success and define it based on his or her experiences, surroundings, strengths and weaknesses. Throughout our childhood, we are told that working hard will result in success; however, hard work isn't the only input of success. From my perspective, success is characterized by hard work, sacrifice, and failure.
My grandfather has helped me understand how hard work and diligence, in the end, will result in success. He was from a poor family of six. His parents didn't have enough money to send my grandfather to high school. …show more content…
I think failure is one of the immense fear of success; however, without failure, there is no success. Through failure, we progress in life and obtain experiences and knowledge. Failure teaches us not to make the same mistakes we made before. My aunt, for example, got married at a young age and was completely dependent on her husband for everything. Unfortunately, their marriage didn't last, and they got divorced after 5 years. Being a single mother of 3, it was very difficult for her to support herself and her children since she was utterly dependent on her husband. However; her failure from her relationship, taught her to be independent and made her cognizant of her capabilities. She went back to college and got her degree as a Registered Nurse. Failure leading to success can also be seen in the case of Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb. Thomas Edison failed more than 100 times during his invention of the light bulb. He tried several times with numerous methods but wasn't able to get any outcomes. With every loss, he learned from his mistakes and tried to ameliorate them. His mistakes taught him new skills and new knowledge, and therefore he was able to invent the light bulb. People say failure is not an option, but I believe it should be an option. We all have different experiences, aims, and priorities in life, so everyone will have a different interpretation of success. According to the dictionary, the definition of success is, “The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” However, to me, the definition of success is hard work, sacrifice, and failure. Sacrificing something precious, working hard towards your goals and learning from your failures will definitely lead you to success. We all should be cognizant that success doesn't come overnight instead it takes days even several years and can be measured by rough
