When asked to name someone who I think is an exemplary communicator, the person that comes to my mind is a role model of mine, Micaella. At the beginning of my junior year of high school I chose to take a class called Professional Career Internship, or Cadet Teaching. This class provided students with the opportunity to experience elementary school classrooms and the responsibilities involved in teaching by placing them in a classroom to act as an aide to their assigned supervising teacher. Micaella was my assigned supervising teacher and allowed me to take on a large role within her classroom and quickly became someone I looked up to…

I am a mother of a five-month-old baby and the first few weeks after becoming a mother were maddening. Don’t get me wrong, I love to be a mom and I will never forget that moment when I saw him for the first time. Meeting my baby boy was a moment I was looking forward for quite some time. Although you hear testimonies from other mothers expressing how difficult are the first few days if not weeks after giving birth, it is not the same when you get to experience it. The first few weeks I was tired all the time not getting enough sleep.…

The baby didn’t affect much of anything because, at the time my sleep schedule was already atrocious, I wasn’t in school because it was the weekend, I only get to spend time with my friends while at school, and I don’t do sports. I gave up nothing while doing this assignment because my life is nonexistent while out of school. I was emotionally not phased, although there were times when I couldn’t figure out what the baby needed so I got frustrated. While I had the baby I had some people laugh at me, (mainly friends) while others gave me a look of pity.…

Because of health reasons, my eldest sister, Ariel, hasn’t been able to drive for a little over a year. Sometime after Christmas, my parents dubbed me responsible enough, and Ariel well enough for me to be her new chauffeur; responsible enough of a driver, taking extra care to drive safe, and well enough to pay attention to any drifting from anything I read in the manual. The first time we took off was to take a quick trip to our local Dollar General. Ariel’s daughter, my niece, was sick with a cold so we needed to pick up some baby ibuprofen. Since Bethany, Aaron, and my dad was at work, Sierra, Elizabeth, and my mom were also sick, I was the only “driver” available.…

What are the first 40 days after delivery all about? If you have just had a baby, you may have been told by your family members that the first 40 days after delivery are important. The practices during these days may vary depending on which part of the country you are from. But largely, the first 40 days are seen as a confinement period, meant for you to recuperate, gain strength and bond with your new baby.…

Dysthymia is another term for depression that is long lasting or chronic. This is not the same as major depressive disorder, in that people that have it can still function, but never find any inner peace or happiness. No one really can understand what causes dysthymia for sure. It could sometimes be related to changes that are hard to deal with in life, or other stress factors. Other times it can be from lack of serotonin getting into the brain.…

The joys of a new baby are numerous for couples, it’s an addition to your family, a new person to love; but a new child also means new responsibilities, a new found source of stress and in some cases depression for the new moms. The particular type of depression I’m referring to is known as postpartum depression. When moms give birth to their babies, their body limits the release of certain hormones, and can cause the new moms to feel sluggish, tired and even depressed. The depression is common for most women, and last for around two weeks, typically starting around the second, or third day after the birth of their baby. This is whats known as the “postpartum baby blues” but those that last longer and are more severe are what 's referred…

A first time mother is never prepared for what is to come when she has her first time child. She is completely unaware of how time consuming a child is and the physical and emotional responsibilities it will take to raise a baby. Some women get the opportunity to have support in their lives, while others have to carry the stress through most if not all the process. Being pregnant in general is hard as it is, having to care for and raise a human child of your own that will be with you forever is even harder. Some might consider inappropriate and somewhat immoral for teens to become pregnant at such a young age, however it has occurred since anyone can remember and continues to happen.…

It was just minutes away from seeing my brother for the first time when I fully realized I was going to have a baby brother. Gazing through the glass window at my parents, the doctors, and my brother, was one of the best feelings in the world. Hailey, my older sister, was the one who was patiently standing with me in the waiting room by the window since we had woken up that morning. We both knew that my mom was going to have a baby, but being in the hospital with many family members made it much more real for both of us. I was as eager as a little kid waiting for his birthday to come.…
