*Thud*, the sound of my school books being dumped on the cold, hard hallway floor., Book after book they fall where I lay on the floor. The school bell rang a high pitch ding and they all ran off to class. I sit myself up and sit in the hallway as people walk past.
“Timmy! Wakeup, it’s your first day at school. Come down and have your breakfast. Hello, I am Timmy it’s my first day of school at my new school. I have been to 2 other schools and this is my 3rd school. I’ve been to Maple Leaf School, Big Pine Middle School and my new school is called Central Valley Middle School. Mr Lieu was an average height male with black hair and he was our maths teacher. The first thing he did was write a few questions on the board and asked each one of us to come up and answer a question on the board. The question I had to answer was “2x12-34=?” I stood up and walked to the front of the room. I picked up a marker and answered the question. As I was walking back to my desk, I again realised people staring at me. I felt self-conscious and avoided people for the rest of the period. At recess, I went to the basketball court, I could smell the odour of deodorant and sweat around as people were running up and down. I went up to one of them and asked if I could play. They said sure and I got put into a team. The game lasted around 20 minutes and I scored a few points and blocked a few shots. After the game, they all asked me to come back and play with them at lunch. Them inviting me to come and play basketball with them feel better. But there was one kid. A kid named Tommy. Who called me names like midget, shorty. He was bullying me for my height and he challenged me to a 1v1 at lunch so I did. Me versus him it was an intense game and all my new friends were watching. Point by point me and him were scoring. minute after minute the time was ticking until half of lunch, when the bell rang, we were both exhausted and we looked at each other, then came my friend announcing the scores. “with a lead of 4 points…. Timmy is the Winner”. I was so happy and all my friends cheered for me. I felt so happy that I had made all these friends, and then a teacher came up to me. His name was Mr Luu and asked me “hello young boy want to join our school basketball team?” “It got founded at the end of last year and I think you would be a great member”. Hearing this made me so happy, I was smiling throughout the rest of the day, and after school, I told my mum all about it from the basketball game, to Mr Luu

It was my first day of kindergarten, I walked to the entrance of the school. The rose-red brick church stood with the sun at its back, exaggerating the facade of a refuge. The transparent door gave me a glimpse the enjoyable atmosphere. Unaware of the hell I was getting myself into, I opened the door and took my first step into the school. Ring the door sung and almost instantaneously, what was once an enjoyable atmosphere changed into a cold, malicious hell.…

As I looked around at my new classmates on my first day of public school, I was in complete shock. All around me I saw students who did not care in the slightest about their education and who saw school as simply a chore instead of an adventure. They slumped down in their chairs, cheated off of each other left and right, rolled their eyes at teachers, and spent each day watching the clock, waiting for the bell to ring that would released from their “prison.” That August morning, I felt like I was in a completely different world: one where I did not belong.…

I didn’t not know what I was expecting. On the first day of high school, I stepped into a crowd of students, waiting to enter the building that would become my second home for the next four years. I didn’ not know where I would stand among these highly accomplished individuals, or if I would even amount to the standards set before me. Self-doubt began to fester inside of me as soon as I stepped through the front doors. I expected less and less of myself as time went on.…

Short shorts. Short shorts as far as the eye can see. This is what I saw all over ETSU’s beautiful campus as I went one day without my cell phone. Initially, I thought nothing much would come out of the seemingly uninteresting assignment, but I was mistaken. It proved to be an eye-opening day, mostly because I saw how much students were on their phones, I learned that I am terrible at telling time, and I can now cope with my social anxiety instead of jumping to my phone.…

Just as I thought my day couldn’t get any worse, it was the first day of high school. Which meant I had to deal with unfair teachers, bullies, disgusting school lunches, and so on. The only thing I like about school was that I got to see my best friends Marc and Carely. We have been best friends since the third grade, I don’t know what I would do without them. Carely was always there for me when I needed someone, I could trust her with practically anything, and Marc was highly intelligent and helped me with any of my classes.…

I often catch myself making the same assumption, day after day. Each day I face a whole new set of difficulties, from the moment I rise out of bed until the second I return. As a high school student who is attempting to manage a part time job, there is little time left for any amusement in my life. The average day consists almost entirely of activities I would rather not participate in. From completing my homework assignment to scrubbing the floors of the second-rate fast food joint that employed me, I am constantly thinking of a thousand things I’d rather be doing.…
