Personal Essay: If You Were Stranded On An Island

Improved Essays
So funny to read the posts from the people who don’t get it.

I had so much fun with a guy on Match like that once. He had a quiz on his profile to determine if you’d be compatible with him (I just couldn’t stop myself):

"If you were stranded on a deserted island, and could only bring three things with you, what would you bring?"

My answers were:

1. My two dogs.
2. Money to buy coconuts.
3. Stuff, lots of stuff.

His response (this is a typical guy on Match, obviously, not as bright as Rob):

Hello silly....I mean cutie....lol

I like your pictures. You are very attractive and I could easily fall for you. I do like artsy types.

Well, just know I am a bit psychic. I pose the question about being deserted on an island, mainly to see

Two dogs is really one answer. It shows that you are attached to your pets. They provide you with joy and comfort. This is common with the human species. However, it generally is not enough. The fact that you would take them with you on your island says that you would not give up on them. It shows how loyal you are. They are your children. Because animals have a short life span, you will have interruptions in your life. You will need strength when the time comes. You are best when you have a life partner to share in the joy and in the times of loss or suffering.

Money to buy coconuts is irrelevant. You are alone on this island. There are no stores. However coconuts are on your island. This shows your ability to dream. Even as insignificant the coconuts are to your island, it shows your vision of an island. Yours is tropical in nature. Not in the North Pole. Which means that you have a warm nature about you. You are also silly, which is a good trait to have. You can laugh at yourself.

You don 't have to share your answers with me, but if you were with your friends and wanted to have a deep intellectual conversation that could reveal the core nature of someone, ask this question. If taken seriously, you can learn a lot about someone. Not a crystal ball, but a reflection of how someone thinks. Best taken with a glass of

What changes? I first answered this question 6 years ago. I still have the same answer. Go figure.

I 'm glad you responded. I could only wish you were here in Nashville. If you were to come visit, I would pay for your gas, as well as our entertainment.

Write again.

Greg

My second try:

Hi Greg,

Here are my revised answers:

1. My dogs.
2. The professor.
3. Stuff, lots of stuff.
4. My own coconuts, so I don’t have to buy them (how can you be sure there’s no coconut stores, have you been there?).
5. A fully appointed 120 foot luxury yacht.
6. My own rules about how many things I can bring.

Here’s a question for you, so I can see if we’re compatible:

I got a Capital One card yesterday, as my ex and I are closing out all our joint accounts. Now I want to transfer my money from SunTrust Bank to Capital One (it says that I can do it online), but I’m a-scared. What if I click on the wrong thing and all my money goes flying into outer space? I wouldn’t feel comfortable going out there to retrieve it myself, because it’s really cold, and there’s no oxygen. If that happens, would you retrieve it for me?

Thanks,

In WW2 we won because the other side (Germany) wanted to take over all and we did not allow that and basically we won because they ran out of bullets. The fourth item is a fishing lure, and we put this in the box because the Native Americans (again) fished in rivers like this Mississippi River where we live right by and they lived on it in summer, so basically they fished the rivers and lakes around Minnesota in summer and this was one of their number one food type. The fifth item that we put in the box is a feather, and we put this in the box because this was another one of food types that the natives ate and they hunted birds too. The main types of birds were turkey, duck, goose, and any other bird that they could get. The sixth item is a deer tail, and we put this in our box because deer is an animal that is in Minnesota and most of Minnesota hunts deer.…

The next day, my legs were tired but that didn’t prevent me from having an enjoyable day. First we went to the Staten Island Ferry where we rode a ferry past the Statue of Liberty. The ferry was full of people but there were three floors to fit everyone on. It also moved surprisingly fast for such a sizeable boat. The next site on the agenda was to visit Grand Central Station, a rapidly fast train station that carries people from all over the country to and from New York.…

Anna Maria Florida It was a hot, humid Sunday in Anna Maria Florida. We were going to the beach with the 3 other families that went with us. It was about a five minute walk from our house we rented to the beach, which really felt like five hours because I was really excited. Once we FINALLY got there my friends and I decided to take our shoes off and find a perfect spot in the white hot sand to set up of chairs and umbrella. We took our clothes off because our swim suits were underneath and sprinted to the clear blue ocean.…
