Personal Essay: How Writing Changed My Life

Going back over my fifth grade notebooks has not once failed to make me laugh and cringe at my boy troubles and lists of cute boys in my class. I love words. I love reading them, writing them and interpreting them. Through all phases of life, I had a usual nature to try and write my feelings down and call it art, even if it were scribbles on a Post-It note. Same goes for the song stanzas I wrote in seventh grade that were really loosely based on a Taylor Swift song and are still relatable today. I love words in all arrangements, from songs and stories to poems and journal entries. I am incessantly thankful to this delightful outlet and art form. Today, I am the proud author of two books, and I use this art form to empower other girls to be confident leaders of their generation. My tools? A paper, a pen, my laptop, a passion, and a dream.
This intellect of creative freedom is where I found my passion, where I felt as if I was being useful. From the bright colors of a sunset, to the way someone’s eyes light up when they speak of something they love, I slowly began to really notice and find a new appreciation for these day to day occurrences. Writing gives me a sense of creativity. It is a more lyrical way to see my seemingly ordinary life and has changed my perspective on everything from going through the motions to seeing the beauty

Those notebooks and leftovers of writing are some of my favorite things to reflect on when I’m going through a hard time. It’s incredible how much my perspective has altered on my journey to self-acceptance. What troubles me now did not trouble me then and what was so important to me back then doesn’t matter anymore. I can look back on what I inscribed at the beginning of the year and see how much has changed. Retrospection really is 20/20 and being able to look back on how you exactly felt on a certain day a year ago really brings things into

I currently live in a small beach town right outside of Jupiter, Florida known as Hobe Sound. It’s a “drive by town” as I would describe it. There really isn’t anything there would attract or gravitate people to stay there; its better to just look at it out a car window well passing it. It is currently about six hours outside of Tallahassee, Florida. This seems really long, but originally I signed to go to University of Mississippi and later realized that being more than ten hours away from home was to much for me.…

As a person, creative writing has allowed me to positively release negative feelings and now I can put all of my frustrations into words, creating something magnificent. Over this past semester I’ve used the conversation metaphor by listening, becoming an expert, and taking a position. To being, the first part of the conversational metaphor is committed to listening to various discussions, find a topic of interest, listen to different people's perspectives, and create your own opinion of a controversial topic. While listening in, I did well staying unbiased when reading each side of the controversial topic.…

I was called by my teacher today. I knew that he was impressed with my writing before and so had a relieving kind of feeling, but that all went away when I saw him. The facial expression of disappointment made itself clear. He started by telling how my paper was too good that it was impossible for this much improvement to happen. He tells me that I cheated or copied someone else’s paper.…

My [Un]changing Writing Process There is a game called darts that is based on a point system: the closer you get to the center, bulls eye, the higher the score, with the highest score winning the game. The game is how I can describe my writing style this quarter. I tend to hit the outer edge only, without going any further to nail the bulls eye in the center. Throughout the quarter this is how I have come to judge my writing, I tried to hit all the points with all the darts in my hand. Based on what I’ve learned through exploring readings and writing assignments, my writing process has improve dramatically.…

Writing Experience With my writing experiences I have managed to read a lot of books. My favorite book was so awkward to read for me at first and I hated the fact my teacher assigned the book to the class to read, yet little did I know that it would turn out to one of my favorite books. My honors English IV teacher one day said that she would love to read a book for the class and that we would love the book and not want to put it down or we would hate the book with a burning passion.…

Before birthdays I write as if for a time capsule, daily I jot quick annoyances and triumphs in my journal, constantly I am writing. Something of a therapy, it has been a tool I have used to take my most painful or overwhelming realities and objectify them, work through them, and create a separate world for them where they exist away from the intense present. Touched by a craving for an escape through words, I spent my childhood one of two ways:…

The earliest memory I can recall of writing was when I was four years old, attending Head Start. I learned the basics that year and in Kindergarten, such as: writing my name, colors, shapes and how to write sentences. From then on, I learned to write three paragraph essays; as the school years went by, I learned how to write longer essays and how there were different types of essays. Writing is a fundamental in life that we need to learn and enhance because it is a form of expressing ourselves and analyzing the writing world. It has shaped my writing throughout my early life experiences in K-12, now that I’m attending college, I am improving my writing skills by reading and recalling all of my writing experiences, and then incorporating it into my upcoming college years in order to succeed.…

For some people, writing is difficult and it can become stressful to write about topics you have no interest about; for me it’s the contrary, I have always had good fluency when it comes to write about any topic, even if it doesn’t interest me, this is mainly because I take it as a new challenge or an opportunity to have a more in deep look about the certain topic; I use this not only for writing but every time I get tasked with something new, for example back when I was in the marine recruit training more commonly known has boot camp, it’s a requirement to learn how to shoot a rifle with outstanding accuracy, for me this was something completely new since I had never held a rifle before and it hadn’t really caught my attention until…

My Relationship with Writing Throughout my life, I have had a “love-hate” relationship with writing. I have always had a passion for written word. However, I learned early on that passion alone is not enough. There is a vast array of skills required to write well. Unfortunately, my Junior High English teachers were quick to inform me that I severely lacked said skills.…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

Writing is only improved by practicing and having errors. In the beginning of the semester my writing was not as academically as it should had been, based on the educational level that college writing requires. My grammar was mostly what affected my development as a writer. Most of my grammar grades in the beginning were about from twenty or thirty point out of fifty. My hopes for passing this class weren’t as strong as they were further in the semester.…

My journey begins with how language affected my life. It all starts off with a conversation that my counselor and I had which changed my life in a matter of seconds due to a couple of comments that were made. Which were “you will be the most successful person in your class” and “You were a floater throughout your high school career” Hearing those statements said changed my life in a matter of seconds because of how affective language can be. Language has affected me in many ways such as a simple conversation my counselor and I had which was how the school had failed me, the positive and negative affect on how a couple of comments changed my life and how the conflict changed my perspective on the counselor and the school.…
