Vince Lombardi addressed football as, ¨Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect of authority¨. Throughout my lifetime I have had many experiences, some great, others, not so great, but no matter what, I have put full effort and commitment with everything that I have done. The most valued experience that I have is football. Football has shaped me into the person I am today and has laid a foundation in which I could build my values on. I started playing the game since I was in grade school. Till this day, the excitement of strapping on my pads and hearing the crack of the helmets has not changed one bit.…

Soccer was something I invested 11 years of my life into, and quitting abruptly put my parents into a frenzy. To my parents this was just another stupid decision, but to me it was the start of my independence. From this day on I began to make choices because I personally wanted to. I stopped caring what my parents thought of me and promised myself to do more for myself. I began excelling in school, not because of the pressure my parents put on me to succeed, but because I knew I could do better if I applied myself.…

I was bored, walking alone one afternoon around the new neighborhood I had just moved in, when a ball slowly rolled to my feet. Casually, I kicked it back and somehow it turned to an amazing goal. The kids applauded and pulled me in for a random soccer game.…

Without soccer, I would not know how to tell my story. I didn't have much free time for soccer teams when I was young because I had to take care of my 5 younger brothers when my mom wasnt home. But in sixth grade our neighborhood was full of Latinos that loved soccer, so that is how I started to become more passionate about it. Our neighborhood did not have a nice field. It didn't have goals or markings, it was pretty much dirt and grass.…

If it wasn’t for soccer my work ethic would have been absolutely terrible. All of my coaches I have played under have always required the very best no matter what the circumstance is; on the pitch, in the classroom, or in everyday life you had to put one hundred percent in everything you do, or else there’s somebody is ready to take your job. One example is my sophomore year in high school my coach said I would get big minutes this year. That was not the case my touch on the ball, and work ethic dropped off when I was subbed out for a much better player early in the season after our foreign exchange students came to play with us. Near the end of the season I decided to change my position to a place where I would get more playing time; I moved up in age group to play with and against much better competition.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…

When George was in third grade, he had a teacher, Ms. Johnson who inspired him. She told him that he could go to college and be successful, as long as he stayed off the streets and out of trouble. She took her students to plays and required them to dress nicely. From a young age, I always loved playing football; being out on the field is one of the best feelings ever. The adrenaline, hearing the crowd cheering, scoring touchdowns; it a rush that goes through my veins and I cannot get enough of it. I would play because I enjoyed it, but I had no idea how the simple game of football would change my life for the better.
