Personal Essay: How Ramsey Thrasher Changed My Life

Improved Essays
In March 2014, I encountered a rare, kind-hearted human being who impacted my life for the better. Little did I know that Ramsey Thrasher would slowly change me into a different person in the many months to follow. Before I met him, I was independent and the definition of a realist. Before receiving my first letter from Ramsey, I was a technology fanatic and thought that old-fashioned letters were practically extinct. I never enjoyed reading and writing, and I definitely wouldn’t rather spend my time on it when I could be doing other activities I had a passion for. I laughed hysterically at the absurd ideas of romantic gestures, and I came to the conclusion nothing would change my mind on any of my beliefs. That is, before I received my first few letters from him. Letters as important as these can turn a person’s world around no matter how bad it may be. …show more content…
A day that I thought would be mediocre; however, it was a day that twisted my life around 180 degrees. Ramsey, face smiling and hands waving, whipped into my driveway in his lollipop red, 1997 Jeep Wrangler. Ecstatic to see him, I took off running to greet him with a warm hug. To my surprise, when I got to the Jeep, Ramsey revealed a candy-filled bag and a bouquet of beautiful red roses. When I saw the surprises, my stomach dropped to my feet and butterflies flooded my soul. As I anxiously started observing the gifts, I discovered a small piece of paper peek-a-booing out of the bag. I snatched the note, and I couldn’t process the heaven sent words as quickly as I wanted to. As I read the paper, an array of emotions took over me. I could feel my cheeks turning rosy and my hands trembling; however, I couldn’t decipher whether it was from excitement or

Dave Ramsey has made a significant impact on my life. Naturally I am a spender when it comes to money; the more money I have, the more I spend. The more money, more expensive things I buy and I never really think about putting any of it into savings for emergencies or for a rainy day. Mr. Ramsey has shown me that saving money and growing wealthy is very possible and not as hard as I had thought it would be. I have learned so much in my econ class and through watching Dave Ramsey.…

My day started waking up extraordinarily early in a splendid five star hotel from an extremely comfortable and pulpy bed complimented with heavenly pillows. This joyful day fills my body with excitement and replays in my mind as if it had happened for the first time. This wasn’t your average birthday present, no not some gift card to GameStop, not some pair of Stephen Curry’s, not even the next Call Of Duty game. The exact moment these words accessed my ears I almost passed out my parents had told me Alex we are going to Queens, New York so you can meet Carmelo Anthony, I was so ecstatic. It felt like it was just yesterday I was packing my bags and filling it with New York Knicks merchandise, I was so immature I even packed my poster of him and his jersey.…

Vince Lombardi addressed football as, ¨Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect of authority¨. Throughout my lifetime I have had many experiences, some great, others, not so great, but no matter what, I have put full effort and commitment with everything that I have done. The most valued experience that I have is football. Football has shaped me into the person I am today and has laid a foundation in which I could build my values on. I started playing the game since I was in grade school. Till this day, the excitement of strapping on my pads and hearing the crack of the helmets has not changed one bit.…

It was May 20th, 2015, a warm and extremely beautiful spring day, when a memory that could last a lifetime was created. I had the day all planned out and was ready for all of the adventures that would be remembered for years to come. With this being his first birthday since we began dating, I made sure to plan an exciting day that would be followed by revealing my big news that I had in store. He pulled up to my house early in the morning, in his little grey Civic, and our day of creating memories had officially commenced. Our first of many stops lead us to the movie theater to watch a movie that he had been dying to see at the time.…

Saturday morning came around again, and I had lots of plans and homework to do. With a big paper I didn't want to write, a hockey game I couldn’t wait to play in, and a family gathering later that night, all of the things I had to do piled up. I hung around my house after waking up, watching “America's Next Top Model” and making pancakes for breakfast, not too worried about the obligations I had. Two hours came and went and I headed out to my hockey game. I piled up the car with my gear and drove to Nobles to meet the team and play our last game.…

However, this has not always been the case. While college attendance is at an all time high (“College Enrollment and Work Activity of 2016 High School Graduates”), the portion of our population living in the upper class has increased by 50 percent since 1971, and the portion living in the lower class has increased 16 percent in that same time period. Consequently, wealth disparity has made it difficult for the lower classes of Americans to achieve the level of success that the highest class has. In addition, the share of aggregate income held by the upper class has increased from 29 percent to 49 percent.(“The American Middle Class Is Losing Ground”) This means that the richest portion of the population possesses nearly half of the wealth,…
