Personal Essay: Grand Worthy Advisor

Service has been instilled in my family and my life from what seems like day one. Service to each other is one of the most important parts of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. This is an organization that encourages young ladies and gives them the opportunity for empowerment and leadership. Within this organization, I have held many offices, but the one I am most proud of and shaped me the most is the one titled Grand Worthy Advisor, which is the highest office a young lady in the organization can hold. When a young lady obtains this office, they must choose a theme and a charity. The charity I chose was the Disabled American Veterans, and my theme was dedicated to the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the military. Throughout the state of Michigan, we raised money by various fundraisers on the local lever to total 5,000 dollars. I credit most of my success to my teachers and administrators starting in my early schooling career. Many of them have encouraged, recommended, or helped me to be successful in many extracurricular activities including peer mentoring, the yearbook editor, and PSA director with the Radio station in high school. After high school, I went to Schoolcraft College, and I was able to achieve a 3.75-grade point average and joined the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. While at this school, I found my love for social work, taking 3 classes that pertaining to this field. At the end of spring 2015, I earned my Associates degree from Schoolcraft College.
