To Play or Not To Play???“Put Me in Coach” When people reminisce about their high school years, fond memories of being at the height of fitness, spending countless hours with teammates, and playing in the “Big Game” are often treasured. However, some students at St. Anthony High School are choosing not to be involved in the athletic program for social and academic reasons. As a result, many are missing out on one of the most important aspects of their high school career. Although some believe that participation in high school athletics is a roadblock towards academic success and a satisfying social life, students should play at least one sport throughout high school because they will develop critical life skills and increase their physical…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

Lacrosse is the best sport to try in the spring or summer because it’s a very engaging activity, it requires a large amount of skill, strength, and cardio. It’s a beautiful sport because I love how it was discovered and the history behind it. I also love the complex rules towards the game. Finally I love interacting with the different people I meet from playing the game of lacrosse. Last year during my last summer as an 8th grader my friends and I went every where we biked, long-boarded, and ran.…

Having been one of the most decorated athletes and best lacrosse player to come out of my high school, my personal goal was to play Division I college lacrosse. You can image my personal satisfaction when I signed on to play Division 1 lacrosse in college. I thought there was nothing else I wanted to do for the next four years. I only went about looking at schools that fit my “lacrosse” blueprint, instead of looking at my college experience as something more than that. I didn’t take the proper steps to find the best-suited college for me as a student, young adult or life outside of, or after my four year as a student athlete.…

Saturday morning came around again, and I had lots of plans and homework to do. With a big paper I didn't want to write, a hockey game I couldn’t wait to play in, and a family gathering later that night, all of the things I had to do piled up. I hung around my house after waking up, watching “America's Next Top Model” and making pancakes for breakfast, not too worried about the obligations I had. Two hours came and went and I headed out to my hockey game. I piled up the car with my gear and drove to Nobles to meet the team and play our last game.…

The day started on a typical chilly, wet and windy twenty-eight-degree day in March. After school, our lacrosse team boarded the bus to play a scrimmage. During warm-ups, like I routinely do, I looked around for my mom and dad to give them a hello wave. At that moment, the realization struck me. For as long as I have grown up participating in team sports in western New York, without exception, I have been able to count on my parents being there on the sidelines, regardless of their work schedule or the weather.…

In conclusion, parents should not let their children play ice hockey. Kids can easily get a concussion or they can get injured in other ways. With whatever sport parents or adolescents decide to play, everyone should do their research on the safety of the game. Athletic activities like track, dancing, or swim and dive are safer activities for kids. They have to run around and exercise, whether it be at a playground or on a walk in the woods.…

My greatest passion and activity is field hockey. A field hockey sisterhood is like a flock of migrating birds in the deep sky. If you look up, they soar through clouds sticking together in a V-formation similar to the diamond layout on a field hockey field. If you look down at a field hockey field, you will see girls from kindergarten through college ripping, the solid ball. As birds fly south in the winter, they rely on each other for directions like teammates naturally depend on each other for directions.…

In life, everyone has that one thing that makes him or her the happiest that he or she could be. In my life, that one thing was gymnastics. From when I was about two years old until I was in tenth grade this sport was what kept my life moving.
