I went with a group from my school and we were in Taos for a week building a house for a single mom and her two kids. While we were there we also volunteered at a goat farm where we raked leaves, a food pantry, and a couple other programs to make the most of our community service trip. Then in the spring of my sophomore year I was invited to join Sigma Sigma Chi, which is the community service sorority at my high school and I stayed in the group for the rest of my high school career. Through Sigma Sigma Chi I have had lots of community service opportunities; I volunteered at local fundraising events, held a stuffed animal drive for the local hospital that way they had toys to give to scared kids, raised money for the Boston’s Children's Hospital, and …show more content…
At the end of my sophomore year in high school I was offered to help with the summer special olympics at my school and I thought, why not. So I joined and I had a blast. I realized that I not only loved working with kids who have special needs but that I was kind of good at it, so I was on the team for the rest of high school. Going to my last special olympics meet last summer was very melancholy because although I loved working with the kids, it was my last special olympics. So when I was at the club fair I saw ADAC and knew right away that it was the club for me. I joined and I love it so much. We bring awareness to all kinds of different disabilities and we find ways to involve ourselves with the special needs departments at the local schools.
