Since I was ten years old I have been the one advocating for my family in a myriad of situations. From filling out my free lunch application in elementary school to helping my grandparents apply to Medicare recently, I have been their liaison to the American system. As a volunteer EMT, I came to realize that mistrust and lack of resources ironically prevents one of the most underprivileged communities from receiving the proper healthcare it deserves.
