Personal Essay: Courage In Hispanic Culture

Having courage is probably one of the most important things to me. We can refer to it as two different ways. One is it courage to face danger and the second way is having courage to do something you are afraid of. In this case, it’s having the courage to sing publicly. Ever since I was little, singing and dancing has been a talent i’ve had since I was about 5 years old. I grew up wanting to be like other celebrities seen on television and my parents would see how much dance performance and artists singing would catch my attention. Obviously, Hispanic culture has different traditions because not every culture is the same. For example at age of seven, I traveled to mexico with my dad. It was a normal day like any other. We went out for dinner with our family and I was still considered a baby at seven years old, but that didn’t stop my dad from persuading me to sing with a traditional group of people called “Mariachi” which are about four to six musicians dressed in native costume. I remember that day like yesterday, I was very shy and my spanish was not very fluent at the time, but that did not stop dad from forcing me to sing. One day I received a call for an audition at “The Voice Kids” in Miami, FL. My dad had send a video of me singing to their company and they reached me as soon as possible. I was afraid of going to the audition because I knew other kids with a better talent were going to attend to the auditions. I knew for sure I was not the best. We traveled to Miami, FL. on a Saturday, and I sang in front of three judges. They have three auditions that same day for the same person you either pass all three, go to the second audition, or leave home on the first try. I passed the first one, fail my second audition. It made me very sad. Other kids that were there for the audition and they would tell me how great I
