Personal Essay: A & P Casting

Decent Essays
A&P Casting I would give myself the role of "Sammy." 19 years old kid who quits his job to start a new life. He is an observant person. He feels grocery store cashier job like prison. He sees color like not everyone else sees it, and he is stuck working in a boring gray scale jail. Sammy is an artist. An artist whose brain is locked up until the day he quits. The reason I chose myself to play the role of Sammy is because, like him I stopped working as cashier in a boring store, like him I had dreams and I was afraid of failure. I have been trough a similar life experience; therefore I am the best candidate I know to take Sammy role. I would give the role of "Stokesie" to my old coworker. They share the same carrier intentions. His name

During the Great Strike 1913-14 & the Ludlow Massacre, I would want to be John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Although Rockefeller, Jr. was blamed for the all the problems causing the strike, he did not know in reality what was going on. He took over the company CF&I from his dad, during the strike and naively believed that everything was under control with the miners who were on strike. After the strike and the massacre, Rockefeller, Jr. had visited southern Colorado to honor the fallen miners from the Ludlow Massacre and cried over the injustice that had happened. I would want to be Rockefeller, Jr. because he showed willingness to change the miners working environment unlike his dad and the businessman, who had little interest on being fair.…

I know it sound juvenile, but if I could be one character from a movie it would be Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. At the end of the animated movie, Rapunzel is reunited with her parents the King and Queen of Corona and the audience sees the whole family dancing in the middle of the square with all of the citizens. I know it is every little girl’s dream, but I have always wanted to be a Princess. When you are a princess, you get to live happily ever after with a wonderful prince and you never have to worry about taxes, college, or getting a job. Princesses are also listened to; they have the power to really change what they think is unjust in the world.…

The story “A & P,” by John Updike is narrated by a young cashier Sammy at the A & P supermarket. The focus of the story is the girls in bathing suits that come into the supermarket to shop. The girls catch Sammy’s attention and his eyes follow them around the store. Sammy eventually rings the girls order up. As Sammy is checking the girls out the manager approaches the girls and warns them about wearing only bathing suits to the store.…

Can’t Pay Me Enough The overwhelming part of having a job as a fully-grown working adult, besides having to spend all your money on bills, is having to put up with the worst types of people simply because you desperately need a paying job. More aptly put, because that worst type of person is usually put in a position of power over you. In the short story “A&P” Sammy had to make a decision, though probably based majorly on his lower half rather than his actual brain, to quit his job due to a strong belief that his supervisor treated a customer unfairly. Sammy was lucky being young means most likely he is without a lot of bills. The Author, John Updike, so easily conveys the setting and era in which this story was written.…

The character I chose is Galina "Red" Reznikov from the T.V show "Orange is the New Black". In the show, Red is the head chef of a prison, and takes great pride in her work. She is feared and respected by majority of the prisoners. She has short red hair, due to which she got her nickname everybody knows her for. She is also usually seen wearing red lipstick, gold earrings, and her white chef's outfit.…

The Sambo is also portrayed as a child that isn’t capable of responsibility. These characters reinforce the beliefs about the inherent laziness of black people, especially black males. For this stereotype I chose Tracy Morgan from 30 Rock, in the show, his character can be found joking and laughing. Sometimes Morgan’s character can be very lazy and reluctant to work. There is a lot to be done to change the inherent stereotypes placed on the black community by white society.…

I decided to go with “The Basket Case” character, Allsion Reynolds from the movie, though not as verbal as the other characters her role amongst her peers is significant within the structure of the group. Initial impressions suggest that she may be out of touch with reality as demonstrated by some of her behavior such as the lack of her responses toward her peers though she is obviously very attentive to what is going on around her. Such behaviors as using her dandruff to simulate a snow fall and the concoction that she created as a sandwich by throwing away the meat and then adding Pixie sticks and Captain Crunch cereal to her sandwich suggest a different mentation than one would have expected. As the character developed in the movie it appears…

My casting for “Hunters in the Snow” would be, for the role of Frank Bailey Baker, for the role of Tub Maddie Rogers, and for the role of Kenny Maiah Thomas. I casted these people for this movie for various reasons, but mainly for the match in personality so it would be easy for them to play the role. I casted Bailey Baker for Frank because of her “follower” attitude. The character Frank is a very go with the flow guy, in the story he was very patient and understanding of why things went wrong. Frank could be insensitive to the other characters but in the end was a good listener and friend for Tub understanding his problems and apologizing.…

Out of all the characters in the plays I would chose Christine, for I'm curious to she how she's doing after the events of the first play and so she can have a fun day with no fears. At the start of the day we shall head off to downtown Toronto and watch street performers for a couple of hours and then go find some food. My reasoning behind this is Christine has talent and I would want to show her some of the amazing talents. After eating we can go off to Ripley's Aquarium and see some awesome sea life, this place is really neat for in one of the areas its a moving sidewalk and the fish can swim over your head and there can be a shark that swims right beside you and this dome like area. Later on we shall wonder around into small shops that…

For the role of Eunice, I chose Coach Bieste from “Glee.” One of the main similarities I see between the two is that they both take the physical abuse from their significant others. In one scene, Steve and Eunice get into an argument and Stanley abuses her. After Steve realizes what he did, he begs for forgiveness from Eunice and she just forgives him just like that, despite the pain he had caused her. In Coach Bieste’s situation, she is in an abusive relationship and yet she decides not to let anyone know about it, She keeps it to herself and yet she still loves her husband.…

I would want Gabrielle Union to present me the same way she presents herself, which is a positive image. She would point out all of my strengths such as being timely and well-mannered but also point out my weaknesses and present how I am trying to better myself such as being able to trust others to do the job. I feel as if it is very important to also point out flaws because at the end of the day no one is perfect and it shows that you are trying to better yourself. I also want her to shed light on my flexibility and my ability to learn and adjust quickly. This will show that I am a well-rounded person who is willing to work hard.…
