However, although they look very similar, their characteristics are totally different. I think the brother is sometimes very lazy and he is usually late, but his sister is very studious and do everything or goes to some places on time. When he plays the online game, his sister usually spends times in studying or reviewing her class and so on. So why is everyone unique? How does everyone become different? Everyone has some talents, but if nobody discovers our specialty and encourages us to develop, it will bury their talents. In the article “Believing in the True Self”, Gloria Steinem says the children who are encouraged to follow their interest became better than those who are motivated by reward, punishment or competition with other children. Gloria’s point of view shows encouragement can help people develop their interest efficiently. There is a good example to prove Gloria’s point of view. In the article “Becoming a Writer”, Russell Baker shares his experience how to change him from hating writing to loving writing. Once, he got an essay assignment from his three-year English teacher Mr.Flegle. However, he did not follow Mr.Flegle’s rules to write the essay, instead, he just wrote something he wanted to write because he wants to write about the warmth and good feeling in that time. On another day, Mr.Flegle read Baker’s essay in the class and said it is a good essay. Baker saw his essay could make his classmate laugh, and Mr.Flegle encouraged him to keep his way to write, so it makes Baker feel confident and invigorative because he knows his writing direction was right. Therefore he kept his way to write essays and become a writer. In our life, sometimes we don’t know what talents we have, so we need other people’ encouragement to support and help us develop our interest and talents to be what we

Growing up with a twin, I was constantly told how much we had in common with each other. These comparisons were understandable because we lived in the same house, went to the same school, and even had some of the same friends. However, today, we are two very different people, and go to different schools, have new friends, and participate in different activities, but we are still compared. In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph go through a related change from seemingly similar to drastically different.…

A lot of people think just because you’re an identical twin, that you must be the same in every aspect of your life as the other person. In my case, and in others, being an identical twin doesn’t prove that we are the same in all areas of life. I have an identical twin sister, named Emily. Emily is pessimistic, high maintenance and very well organized. I, on the other hand, am more optimistic, open-minded and easygoing.…

In John Holt’s “How teachers make children hate reading”, Holt argues that rather than students trying to understand what they’re reading or writing they should simply just enjoy it. He claims that when teacher’s stress to their students “understanding” and not making mistakes interferes with the student’s growth as readers and writers. Holt provides many supporting arguments that strengthen his claim. One claim that I agree with is when Holt states, “Third, and most important, we learn to write by writing, not by reading other people’s ideas about writing. What most students need above all else is practice in writing, and particularly in writing about things that matter to them, so that they will begin to feel the satisfaction that comes from…

“And what matters in this journey-at least initially-is not what kind of car you’re driving, but where you end up.” This quote spoke to me on levels beyond writing. When you get to the end of your life, you will be less concerned on the little aspects of life, but more on the journey and outcome of life. I find “The Importance of Writing Badly,” an incredibly mind opening essay. I have truly never thought from Bruce Ballenger’s point of view.…

There is something that makes me stand out from others: my younger twin sister, Sophia, and I are fraternal twins. Although we’re fraternal twins who technically don't look alike, my sister and I share almost identical facial and body features, to the point where people wouldn’t be able to recognize who is who from the back. This is why there is always confusion between our friends about if the person they are greeting is the right twin, (and most of the time it is not). Most people would get angry if someone mistook them for another person. This, however, is not the case for me.…

All my life, I never truly appreciated reading, writing of what is was, for I’ve always hated reading and writing. I could never see as of why it’s so important to read or write by virtue of me believing either it’s boring or a huge waste of time. My parents and teachers would always encourage me, but I could never really get into it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a good reader and writer; I just didn’t like to do it. For an example, back in second grade I was reading at a fifth grade level.…

There are so many people out there it is hard to believe not one of us is like the other. This is also reflected in many characters in our literature. Take a look at the two works “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing and The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.…
