Personal Development Goals

As a means to guarantee that this internship be the best learning opportunity it can be, I have formulated a number of learning goals pertaining to four different areas of development: Professional development, personal development, knowledge development, and skills development. I aim to achieve all such learning goals by the end of the internship and through the projects I will produce. In regards to professional development I will use this opportunity to explore this career position, and organization type, thus gaining industry awareness. I will accomplish this through attending meetings and by learning about all the different departments at the organization. Instead I will do my best to use mindfulness as a technique and use the mantra of mistakes being miss takes. Thus I will try to not judge myself so harshly which coincides with being more open and accepting of constructive criticisms. I plan as well to not let feelings of guilt stop me from being assertive or constructive with feedback. I will tell myself that I am not actually stepping on others toes or hurting their feelings when speaking up with my ideas and being comfortable saying no. The last personal development goal I have is that of self-care so that during these two semesters, with the taxing combination of being a fulltime student, working, being an intern, and maintaining a social life, that I promise to make time for myself. I will care for myself physically, mentally and emotionally. The next set of goals fall under knowledge development which fits most closely with the theory and knowledge basis of the department itself. Lastly in terms of goals are those which associate to skills development and my challenges. I firstly plan to continue to improve and expand on my current skillset and strengths. In relation to decision making, I will not allow myself to be held back by fear, I will make a decision, stick with it, and trust my judgement, and otherwise how can I expect others to. When it comes to initiating I aim to not be scared to dig-in and get started nor share my ideas. For negotiations I will do my best to accurately explain my point of view, and keep an open mind, but nonetheless hold onto my point of view if I know it is right. Furthermore I will choose my battles wisely. In regards to communication I will attempt to recognize any unspoken rules with the communication with superiors and do my best to deliver messages as accurately to my intended message as possible. I will do so by continuing to use the techniques I have learned through nursing and this program. With risk-taking I aim to not allow being scared hold me back from taking challenges on or trying something
