Religion Research Questions

I am the eighth child in a family of 10. My father retired from the army after almost 20 years of service. My family has always attended church. Over the years, from a small East Texas town in the 50s, to deployment on military bases abroad and finally settling in Fort Worth in the early 70s, their religious experiences have varied greatly. My family has experienced their share of death and personal tragedy, but has remained strong in their religious convictions and beliefs. Not all of my siblings chose to continue the tradition of regular attendance or participation in religious activities, but they continue to express belief in the principles that they were taught. Likewise, there may be a number of issues or factors taken into consideration prior to making the decision not select a religious affiliation.
1. Are young adults who had a religious affiliation as a child more likely to maintain a religious affiliation as adults?
2. Do young people, ages 18 to 35, describe themselves as religious or spiritual?
3. Do young people believe in the existence of God or a higher power?

Null Hypotheses
1. Among young adults who report having no religious affiliation, there is no statistically significant difference between the number who grew up in a family with religious affiliation and those who did not.
2. Among young adults who report having no religious affiliation, there is no statistically significant difference between the number who describe themselves as spiritual and those who do not.
3. Among young adults who report having no religious affiliation, there is no statistically significant difference between the number who express a belief in a higher power and those who do
