As I get closer to graduation and look back over both my academic and personal career the themes that are most prevalent are sports, family, hard work and values. Being involved in sports from my early childhood until the present has significantly impacted my life not only in terms of career choice but also in my personal relationships. Whether you are referring to a family or a team the concepts of hard work and values become prevalent if you are to be successful. The teams I have been a member of are more like family, and act as a support along life’s path. My parents and the close knit community at all of my Catholic educational settings have greatly influenced my core values, or roots. I was raised in a setting where family was the center of all activities. My relationship with my grandparents was very special as they lived next door. Immediate family meant upwards of fifty people as both of my parents had seven siblings and many cousins were treated almost like brothers and sisters. This extended family all has had a profound influence in shaping my values and character.

This is where my belief in the importance of teamwork was reinforced. Running has been my passion since junior high and has been a significant part of my life. As a high school and college student, I have participated in both cross country and track and have traveled throughout the east coast to run. Running has become part of my regular routine and I hope that I will be able to continue my passion after graduation.
