Personal Assistants: A Short Story

Slowly, I was slipping into the new routine. Well, the week-day routine. I was starting to fear the weekend one because I heard stories of all these bad things happening to personal assistants and I was starting to get scared. But in other news, the Gleeful's got another slave. 'Probably a replacement for Cho.' I thought sadly with tears threating to spill.

I was nominated to show her the ropes and teach other skills she'll need. I was going to be meeting her in the early hours of the day.

The part of the tour that I am dreading is giving her the brand. Everyone slave is given one upon their arrival. The brand is a the tent of telepathy symbol, the star with the eye in the middle but the addition to it was there were G's on each point of the star.

It broke my heart to see another broken and beaten soul become trapped in the Gleeful manor.

I led her down the hallway, in awkward silence, with all the other servants staring at her with a lot of pity. She stared back at them with curiosity. "Why were they staring at me like that?" She asked me once we got to the end of the hallway. I took a few moments tp think of something funny to lift her spirits but what came out was, "They've just never seen someone with that much sadness in them."

"What's that? On your wrist?" She asked me, grabbing my wrist. She analyzed my brand and carefully caressed her fingers over it. She gasped as fear filled into her crystal blue eyes. "Did the people who bought me do this to you?! *Gasp!* Do all of us have to get one?! *Gasp!* Do they brand this onto us!" All these questions rolled off her tongue.

"I will answer your questions at the end of the tour," I told her as calmly as possible. She didn't look any better but as if Earth and Hell became sky. I showed her where everything was, told her the rules, who not to mess with in any way, and the release
