I greatly appreciate being able to take these exams at various times throughout the past weeks because it allowed me to enter every new assessment with a clear thought process. When we started this segment of the class by taking the True Colors assessment, I already came into it knowing I was an orange. I had taken the true True Colors assessment in a previous class, however, I wanted to learn more about what constituted a person with an ‘Orange’ personality. The way counseling is done can truly be the difference maker when talking to students. Another imperative concept that I noticed was the importance of tools used when talking to students. During my observations at El Camino, I notice the counselors always talking to students about their various interest. In one instance, one of the counselors introduced the Holland’s assessment to a student who was still unsure which career path he wanted to pursue. Being able to see the application of what I read was a great learning experience for me, as it was for the …show more content…
I did not assume a role because I saw that my group’s points aligned with my own. We all saw the importance of health, and why it was necessary for society to practice it. However, the one value that I wanted and was not choosen was ‘Power.’ I believed that ‘Power’ was necessary because without power, the utopian society we had build would quickly crumble because there would not be a system of check and balances. I am a type A personality and the color that best represents me from the test is red. I chose to give this personality test to a good guy friend of mine and he has a type B personality as well as blue best representing him. I thought that giving this test to a guy would allow me to see where he stands in terms of his personality and how a color could really describe him as a person. He has been a great friend of mine for more than 5 years and having him complete this test will see if how he is as a person directly correlates to a specific personality type and color. Seeing that I am a red personality makes most perfect sense to me when I look at all the other descriptions of the other colors.…

When I took the color code quiz, I discovered that I was mainly a blue, with some red tossed in. Blues tend to be emotional, insecure, and worry-prone. A day in the life of an average American citizen is filled with family, work, and other obligations that compete equally for time and attention. However, striking a balance between these obligations is not an easy task, and poor planning results in role imbalance that leads to stress, anxiety, and unfulfilled obligations. Consequently, there is a method to understand if an imbalance is occurring in your life, and this method is called self-reflection. To aid a person in self-reflecting, it is suggested that they notate their daily activities in a journal, and analyze if or when an imbalance is occurring in their life. Subsequently, when a person is “armed” with this new information they can adapt or change their behavior to verify that they are fulfilling their obligations.…

The first skill that was used to engage my client was using an open ended question at the beginning of my interview. According to Hohman (2002), “open-ended questions are those that have a variety of possible answers and do not limit the client” (p.20) using this strategy allows the client to explore his own thoughts and it encourages the client to do most of the talking. I started my conversation with my client by asking a simple open question for example “how was his day going ?” later I saw myself asking deeper questions such as “You mention that your brother is an alcoholic, how is your relationship with your brother?” this allowed me to listen to my client story in his own words and to keep the interviewing flowing.…

I have been looking forward to it for many weeks once you mentioned it at the beginning of the semester that we were going to get to do a personality test.
