Both my personal and professional identity can have some kind of impact in what role I play in the client’s lives. For instance, as someone who is new to the profession, I would take on a non expert role where I would get the clients to take on the expert role and take charge in sharing their experiences in their point of view without someone else making assumptions. Also, I would try taking on a non-judgemental role where I will provide a safe and comfortable place for clients to freely express themselves without worrying about being judged, which in turn will foster a strong therapeutic alliance.
