I will use positive body language that will be non-threating, here I will also explain how the sessions will be structured and the expectation. Using the self-disclosure method with enhance the relationship between myself and the client, this will increase my vulnerability while building intimacy between the family members.

The next process for engaging both Marie and Peter is the process of gathering information from them, here their roles will be defined. Focusing on what they feel is the concern and if they have played a part in the problem, next as the counselor information giving which will address appropriate behavior from each family.

He has acknowledge that he has issues with drugs or alcohol, and from his family demeanor some form of abuse is or has been going on. Residential treatment program will help Dan with detoxification, and help with his identify his behavior pattern, maladaptive beliefs and a more pleasant and progressive way of cooperating with others.
Family therapy is the first intervention for this family to recover, here each family member will be brought together to address what is causing conflict or tension between each member. The family will benefit by each member being heard and learning how to effectively interact with each other. However it appears that Dan is not willing to participate, which will defeat the purpose of family counseling, however, I would work with the other family members, while attempting to understand why Dan will not participate and to determine if this is the correct
