As I previously stated they both have an interest in changing how we think and feel that is a shared tactic. Naturally, it is approached differently through the use of various techniques that are associated with each theory. However. I believe these theories are linked together because of their social implication. Adlerian theory drives it home that a person needs to be stable, confident, and strong. This notion is not just to develop themselves but to move society forward. Adlerian therapy reminds me of a mentality that I am my brothers’ keeper. If you think about it we need one another to keep society functioning, whether it is in a microcosm or not. Our first experiences of how to act in society is with our family. We later move to how to treat and deal with individuals in our neighborhood, in the community, then at school or work. Person centered theory is called client centered theory when it changes the development or thoughts of one client. Importantly, this theory is essential in being applied to families, groups and cultures in society. When we look at things from that standpoint this theory denotes a humane, positive optimistic view. This view is necessary when it comes to moving people forward in society. We use Rogers’ theory to bring about change in the school system and in cultures. People determine that they are tired of being uneducated and poor so they persevere. They must arrive at the thought that life is what I make it and I have the ability to do better. Just as the Adlerian theory wants individuals to do well, and focus on society in so many words so does this theory. It helps individuals realize that even though they are up against some pretty unfavorable conditions they are capable of rising above them, but the thought process has to change. I marvel at the quote of “I think therefore I am” it solidifies that an individual, group, or culture can be whatever they want just as long as they apply themselves and keep self-actualizing. Doing, applying, elevating, and educating whatever it takes to change your situation for the better. The social or humanistic piece is the common thread at least that is how I view it between these two
