The Persian shop owner and his family have enormously involved relationships, usually circling around racism, immigration and anger. Three theories that would accurately describe the relationship between the Persian shop owner and his family would be Dissonance, resistance and emission and homeostasis.

In the beginning of the movie, Farhad, brought a gun to deal with his wife being robbed, prior to the start of the movie. He speaks about the robbery, as his daughter is loading the gun, and says “that man could have killed your mother, you think I should let crazy people do what they want to us” (Haggis, 2005)? When Lauren’s community burns down, one of the first things she gets from her house is a gun, because she knows it is a necessity to have it outside. She knows of the importance of guns and how they protect you because her father took the community kids 15 years and older for shooting practice. He did this because he knew that one day they wouldn’t have the protection of the wall. To solve this problem, he or she may change something to eliminate or reduce the dissonance. Attitude is the way we feel about a particular way towards an object, people, and events. In “Why Gun ‘Control’ Is Not Enough,” McMahan argues that the United States should ban private gun ownership almost entirely. His most crucial claim is that general gun ownership does more damage to the U.S. than it prevents. Therefore, banning private gun ownership would minimize the amount of occasions where a gun could potentially be used for harm. In this paper, I will reject these claims presented by McMahan because the banning of private gun ownership would not inevitably lower crime rates.…

Protection or Intoxication In the essay, “A peaceful Woman Explains Why She Carries a Gun” by Linda M. Hasselstrom in the anthology, ‘Pattern for College Writing: A Rhetorical Reader and Guide, the author support the idea of carrying a gun as a safety measure. Hasselstrom shows how it is unsafe being a lady and roaming around thousands of miles on deserted roads, and abused by men while camping with a friend. Hasselstrom felt insecure whenever she was faced by a misbehaving adult or when she found out signs of trespassers in her house and could not do anything about it.…

In this section, Grant tells when he met a supposedly racist auto-shop owner, Bud, but quickly he realizes that he is not who they say. This situation gave me ideas of how I would react if I was in both situations: the owner/store clerk or the customer. This section of People Like Us, showed me that a great way to fix a tension, whatever it’s caused by is to just get out there and start the conversation. For example, Grant says that after talking to Bud about the part and purchasing it, he felt the need to grab Bud’s attention and catch him off guard, even if just for a moment (211). All these ideas of the racial bias behind Minnesota Nice, racism and anti-immigrant violence intense to read about.…

The purpose of a gun to many is a tool used for ending another’s life, but to me it is a tool meant for protection and security. Around a year ago my apartment was broken into by a con artist who had tricked me into showing him my room, he had told me he was a repair man here to replace the old locks with some newer ones. At the time I was fresh out of my parents’ house so I was quite gullible unfortunately, and let him "fix" all my locks. He had planned to break in when me and my roommate were supposed to be at school, however he miscalculated and we were both there.…
