Perseus Comparison

Clash of the Titans Clash of the Titans and the story of Perseus according to the Greeks are based on the same story and share many similarities as well as differences. Although, in both versions the plot follows, for the most part, the same basic points. Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, slays Medusa, then saves Andromeda with Medusa’s enchanted head, and lastly, kills Acrisius. First, there are vast similarities in both of these versions of Perseus’s amazing tale. In both versions, Zeus descends from the heavens to have an affair with a female relation of King Acrisius, prompting Acrisius to cast this relation and Perseus out to sea in a box. Additionally, Perseus is sent on a quest to slay Medusa and retrieve her enchanted head. Further, on this quest, Perseus receives advice from the eye-sharing sisters called the Graeae. Lastly, Perseus, using Medusa’s severed head, turns a gigantic beast to stone, destroying the beast, and saving Princess Andromeda. First of all, in the movie, Zeus’s affair is with Acrisius’s wife, but in the story passed through generations, the affair is with Acrisius’s daughter, and is kept secret for far longer than in the movie. Further, in the movie, Perseus is found by a fisherman and his family, and his mother does not survive, whereas in the story, Perseus is washed up on an island and raised by his mother and Dictys. Additionally, in the story, on Perseus’s quest to slay Medusa, the Graeae grant him immensely helpful armor, but they do not in the movie. Lastly, the beast that Andromeda is to be sacrificed to in the movie is called the Kraken; in contrast, the beast in the story is called the Ketos. Even further, after Perseus beats the beast, he marries Andromeda, but in the movie, he does not. With all these differences, one can obviously choose one version over the
