In the image, it shows the social classes in Iran. Marjane was living in the higher class, which affected the story because she got what all the Western countries got, while the lower classes only had hope for the “key to heaven” which was the only way they could live a happy life. Another part of the book when Marjane experienced differences in social classes was when her maid, Mehri had a love interest. Mehri told him that she was Marjane’s sister so that he wouldn’t think of her any differently. After sending so many letters back and forth, Marjane’s father started to notice the letters, realizing that they were written in Marjane’s handwriting but Mehri’s words. As soon as he found out, he instantly headed for Mehri’s love interest, clearing up the mess they made. Once he realized she was a maid, he immediately distanced himself from her forever (Satrapi).
In conclusion, the novel, Persepolis had many images that impacted the deeper meanings of the story. Also, there were many themes that related to the images, which caused the reader to have a better visual of what Marjane experienced throughout her
