Based on the novel, Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi, the roles of males and females played a huge part in marjane's life and the revolution. Males and Females were treated differently because the government saw male and woman in different views. In addition, the characters who played a part in the female roles were Marjane, who is the main character, and her mother. Also, the roles for the males were the boys who joined the army. Marjane explains how “Then came 1980: The year it became obligatory to wear the veil at school (page 3).” Females were the ones required to wear the veil. The boys clothes change after the revolution, but they are never as restrictive as a veil. Even when they were in school as a kid, the females were never taught or learned why they had to wear the veil. Marjane says how “ We didn’t really like to wear the veil, especially since we didn’t understand why we had to (page 3).” They had to wear veils after the revolution, and they were never knew why they had to wear it because the government didn’t really care what little girls did and didn’t like. Marjane's mother always stands up for what she believes in. She exclaims how “ [Marjane] Should start learning to defend her rights as a woman right now!” Marjane gets a lot of her feminist nature from her mother.
