Persepolis is a story based upon the life and coming to age of Marjane Satrapi. Through out the story, Marjane and the people around her face many conflicts such as war and oppression. The author, whom is also the main character, utilizes external, interpersonal, and internal conflicts to create multiple themes around society and women.
The anecdote begins in the 1970's where Marjane is a young girl living among her family in Iran. The first major external conflict is introduced to all the characters and the rest of Iran; the Islamist revolution creates a harsh environment for the people of Iran. Marjane faced these conflicts at a young age. The school teacher taught incorrect material based on the war and Marjane made it a point the teacher was wrong and she was expelled. This exemplifies just how much effect the government and media control the ideology of war and how it is perceived and taught. This also goes to show how the learning system tries to pass off incorrect information in order to keep children ignorant from important situations. Marjane was no stranger to the war and was clear that the Islamist revolution was killing and keeping people in prison after the death of her uncle. Marjane was also no stranger to speaking against authorities. After being expelled for her outburst, she was sent to Austrillia. Here, she lived amongst many places, one being nuns who eventually kicked her out for grotesque behiavior. Although, Marjane saw eating in front of the TV with a pot of noodles was normal. Being out on her own, she went to many parties where other women judged her for Marjanes background. This women vs women behavior is a common thread even in society today. Society has turned all humans against each other which is how wars are caused in the first place. Disagreements just because of where someone is born creates a huge conflict due to society's perception of world issues. Many officers
