In the book The Massacre at El Mozote by Mark Danner and the movie Persepolis directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, shows the way war impacts society and their civilians in many ways. First, the book shows how the war impacted families and the livelihood of the civilians in El Salvador. Secondly, the movie shows how humans rights and freedoms could be effected by war. Lastly, both the movie and the book show the significant differences in how total war could affect a society. The book and the movie shows the impact a war could have on its civilians and society by impacting families and human rights and many others.
To begin with, the book, The Massacre at El Mozote, uniquely expresses how war reaches into their society by the war being played out in the backyard of the El Salvadoran people and it affecting their families and livelihood. In the movie it shows the how the government can limit a society freedom and control what the wear and say. A prime example of this is when in the movie when the main character Marjane is the car with her boyfriend and then a pair of cops pull next to them and then the next scene is a guy talking saying “Either they will pay a fine or it will be lashing” (Persepolis). The government took away the freedom of their civilians to show any sign of affection or love towards one another. The government want people to be scare and not have any happiness in their lives. The government wanted to control the emotions and take away the emptions from the public display to help control their society and not have another revolution. This makes a society peel away from the government and cause more ways to set up a total
