In Iran the ideology was Political Islam. In the ideology of Political Islam, the leaders believed that people had to interpret the Qur 'an strictly the way the did, and if they did not, they are authentic Muslims. On the way to her new home, it became obvious to Marjane that her friend had adapted to the European culture. When Marjane was eager about being able to be free and not have to wear a veil, her friend was talking about things like ear muffs and lipstick. At this point it became apparent how different Iran was from other European countries. She was anxious about being free and being able to make her own choices and her friend was concerned about makeup. Marjane attended a high school where she met some new friends. They were not interested in getting to know her, they just wanted to acquire information about the war in Iraq. While introducing her to people, her friends would tell people that she was Iranian and she has experienced war. This made people interested but not for legitimate reasons. They only wanted to discover the war that was proceeding. They did not see her as a friend, they saw her as a girl who has experienced war, not just read about it in textbooks. After she escaped the she thought that her old friends would stick to their, word and help her. The first house she went to was her friend Jenda. When Heda arrived, Jenda was startled to see her and invited her in, but after a while it was evident that Heda was not wanted there. Her other friend Franta told her “ I have to get a good look at a person who escapes from a concentration camp,… and still thinks she can stay alive.” After he stated his, he admitted he was anxious to help her. Heda also lived through a time in which her country was under Communist power. . During this time people who were classified as traitors, were arrested, and given an unfair trial. One of these people happened to be Heda’s husband, Rudolf Kovaly. After Mr. Kovaly’s arrest, the officers of the party came into their home and took anything that had any value. Friend of the Kovaly’s wanted to help Rudolf and testify for him because they knew he would not oppose against the party. Even with them wanting to, they did not , because they knew if they did the party would punish them and their family. Since Rudolf was considered a traitor and she was married to him, she lost her social life. She lost her job, house, and almost died because she was sick. When she would plead for help, people would refuse them help.When she went to the hospital the doctor helped her
