Persecution Of Jesus Research Paper

Improved Essays
We live in a world full of compromise, hate, and violence – a world of sin. As Christians, we are told we have to live in the world, but not of it. We are to live a separated, holy life {Romans 12:1-2} but we can’t do it in our own strength; we have to let Jesus take total control of our lives. When we turn our lives over to Him, Jesus becomes our Overcomer.

Every time the news comes on there are stories full of horribleness that enters our ears and eyes. Things that are hard to forget: the persecution of Christians, the persecution and attacks on different nationalities, freedoms slowly being removed one by one; things that should cause a sense of awareness for the Christian.

We face uncertain times every day. While some of us may face things a little more difficult than others, we all have things we face that cause worry and fear. You know, Jesus is not the one who gives us the spirit of fear. He gives us the spirit of strength, love, and self control. {2 Timothy 1:7}

When Jesus was here on earth, He faced tribulation. From the time King Herod heard about His birth, Jesus was sought after to be killed; Joseph and Mary had to leave their country for Egypt until the danger was over. During the short ministry years, Jesus had his own people turn against Him because of who He was. Can you imagine having your own people turn against you? It’s hard to imagine, but it happens – even today. Jesus told us we would have hardships, but for us to be comforted in Him because He has already overcome the problems of this world.

    The mountains of West Virginia are filled with tons of coal which were needed to fuel the industrialization of the United States. The removal of the coal required a huge workforce as coal miners were forced to dig deeper and deeper into the ground to access the coal. Diane Gilliam Fisher’s poem, “Explosion at Winco No. 9”, showcases the emotional toll on a miner’s family. The families of the West Virginia coal miners lived with the knowledge that each morning might be the last time a wife kissed her husband goodbye, the last time a father held his children or the last time the family had a chance to express their love for each other. The emotional strain on the miners’ wives is illustrated when Diane Gilliam Fisher writes “It is true that it…

    I learned a great deal about the nature of my faith from this semester due to my study of the Gospel of John. The stories in the gospel are so important for modern Christianity because the obstacles to a strong faith were generally the same in the time of Jesus as they are now. The most evident issue to me is the need for people to see the work of God with their own eyes. Therefore, their faith is contingent upon them being able to see the works of God which defeats the whole purpose of Faith. There are two books within the Gospel of John that display this issue and many others.…

    Christianity, a religion known the world over however, It did not start this way and its rise to preeminence was fraught with alienation, destitution and persecution. Christianity follows the belief that a man named Jesus who was a great teacher of his time and regarded by his followers to not only be a prophet but in fact the flesh and blood incarnation of God. Came to this world in order to redeem mankind whom in the eyes of God had been willingly lead down the path of sin, though their trespasses had apparently not warranted an extinction level event such as found in the story of Noah and the flood. Instead he chose a different route and gave to mankind a message of love and toleration for one another. The Jewish leaders and Roman officials…

    In the first century of Rome, Christians initially became “a group of hate because of their outrageous practices.” (Doc 2) Christians were rumored as cannibals due to one of their practices of drinking wine, which was construed as eating bodies and drinking blood. Moreover, their act of referring each other as “sister” and “brother” sprang the belief that Christians committed incest as well. As an example of the inimical attitude of the Roman Empire towards the religion, Emperor Nero sentenced the most fearful punishments upon the popularly, which was the first persecution of Christians in the Empire after the Great Fire of Rome. In accordance to the Roman Historian Tacitus, “their executions were made into a sport in that they were covered…

    Many people in the world today have decided that a world view does not matter; that everyone can simply believe what they would like to believe, and it would not make a difference. However, this is not true; a man’s worldview determines his every act! (Overman) Hitler for example, believed that Jews, disabled people, and elderly people were worthless; he thought that he could make a perfect world.…

    Jesus said to his disciples in John 16:33 that "In the world you will have tribulation. The bible says that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the spirit (Matthew 4:1). This scripture states that Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted. One of the things Jesus was tempted with during his time in the wilderness was to throw himself down from a pinnacle (Luke 4:9). Satan was tempting Jesus to jump and let the angels save him. The struggles that we deal with from day to day may seem like it they are never going to change and the only way out is for us to end our life.…

    Peter was mentioned over and over again in the life with Jesus and the beginning of the New Testament Church. It all started with Peter working as a fisherman and ran the business with the men and women of the Family. His life was not talked about in detail about before Jesus met him, but I would have to say that he was probably a normal hardworking man. Then Jesus called the leader out of him and his life changed forever for the better.…

    In answering the question of precisely how widely persecuted early Christians truly were, Moss pointed out as an example the periodic disposition of Roman persecutions before the time of Diocletian, and she made a distinction between persecution (as a hostility toward a group because of its religious belief or who they are) and prosecution (an act or process of holding a trial against a person who is accused of a crime). Although, she did not argue that the Romans executed some Christians but says it is less for their beliefs but mostly by them coming off as stubborn by refusing to abide by the predominant societal practice in which the survival of the empire depended upon and sometimes being subversive. She concludes that some of the decrees…

    I have enjoyed reading all the passages and commentaries about the first Christian martyr, Stephen. It has really been eye opening and God has showed me some amazing things through this study. Before I get into anything I just want to summarize what I read. In the book of Acts, early church members in the church in Jerusalem were giving their money freely to help the poor. But this caused a bit of a problem because the church was growing so fast that some of the widows in the community were being overlooked.…

    In this essay, I will be talking about what I believe to be true from what Jesus tells us in the Bible, about being the Son of God and how He was here to die on the cross for our sins, showing everyone who He was and who ever believe in Him is save, or healed if they were sick. In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

    1. Camp presents a bold and challenging proposition that Christian’s, especially Americans have missed the mark when it comes to discipleship from Biblical example. He gives a prime example of the Rwandan genocide and how Rwanda was a mostly Christian nation. In this he shows that the “discipleship” process was a failure, and that there must be more to true discipleship. Camp brings across the point that we are to be Christian, first, and then identified with other concepts and attributes later.…
