My first book for ABU was The Perks of Being a Wallflower. In this book it starts out with a fifteen year old boy named Charlie who writes about his life in a letter format. In the beginning of the book Charlie talks about the first year of high school and his friend Michael who went suicide. He talks about how much he misses Michael and he was confused on why he didn’t tell him that he was depressed. Then he describes his family. In his family Charlie has a sister, a brother, a mother, a father, and his Aunt Helen who died in a car accident. The family has some issues but what family doesn’t. Later the was accepted by their group of friends, but starts doing drugs and alcohol. Later in the novel Charlie and a girl named Mary Elizabeth, who was part of the group, started to have a relationship, but it all ended when they were playing truth or dare and Charlie was dared to kiss the prettiest girl and the room and he kissed Sam. This caused a problem in the group and his close friendship with Sam and Patrick. Sam, Patrick, and Charlie friendship came back together when Charlie stood up for Patrick after Brad called him a faggot (Brad’s dad found out and beat him). At the end of the book, the end of the school year, Charlie is sad and depressed that he is losing his friend, especially Sam, who is going to college. He helps her pack her bags and he tells her about his feelings for her. At first she was furious because he should have said something earlier but then they start making out. Everything was fine until Sam touched Charlies inner thigh and he got frightened. Remembering the horrible memories from his past, that Aunt Helen used to sexually abuse Charlie. The book started out with a boy named Thomas stuck in a darkness and having no memory of anything except his name. He later then is found by a group of teenage boys that call themselves the Gladers and they lived in the area called the Glade. The boys say that every month only a teenage boy comes to the glade and that know one remember who and how they got here. The glade was surrounded by a giant maze with mechanical creatures inside. The boys call them the Grievers. If you get stung by one of the Grievers you go through this change called traumatic. Thomas meets the leader of the Glade, Alby, and the second leader, Newt. He also meets Chunk the second youngest Glader, who becomes Thomas friend and Minho, the leader of the runners. During daytime huge doors open up to the Glade leads into the maze but when the sunsets the doors close. The day after Thomas arrives in the Glade, a girl comes. She had a note on her saying “this is the last one ever.” She said her name was Teresa and that everything was going to change. Thomas felt like he had a connection to her. While Alby and Minho were exploring the maze, Alby got stung by a Griver. Thomas sees them and runs to help them, but the doors closed making all three of them got stuck in the maze. The three survive the night in the maze which has not been achieved. But because Thomas broke the rules he had to be in jail for a day. After a day in jail, Thomas is trained under Minho to
