Looks are deceiving, yet it is human nature to draw conclusions based on appearances. A simple item of clothing can indirectly speak upon the individual and categorize them into social status groups. Many films, rely on this bodily sense to engage their audience and bring a story to life. The film Perks of Being a Wallflower directed by Stephen Chbosky, successfully uses costume design to depict the character’s personality and illustrate their backstory.

Additionally, Sam can be spotted wearing a red dress on 2 occasions, homecoming and senior prom. At the homecoming dance Sam wore knee-length black and red strapless dress. The top portion of the dress was all black and the bottom was a dark red floral print underneath a black sheer tulle. Though the shoulders remained uncovered Sam wore sheer black tights underneath her dress to represent her conservative style, detaching herself from her freshman year reputation. For prom, she is seen in an all red simple dress with red high heels. Her color choice for the dress and overall wardrobe color scheme heightening her passionate and dynamic personality.
