Perks Of Being A Wallflower Book Report

The book I’ve been reading is called The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. For those who haven’t read the book, basically it's about a boy named Charlie who is 15 years old and he’s starting his freshman year of highschool. The book is a bunch of letters written to an anonymous person who never writes back, so it’s kind of like a diary recording everything throughout the year and he goes through a lot. His issues, his friends issues, his family's issues while he’s still trying to deal with the trauma from the year before. But Charlie is a wallflower, and that just means he doesn’t always participate in life. He sees things, he keeps quiet about them and he understands. I really liked Charlie, the friends he made and the adventures

The book’s tone is happy and jolly at most times, and at others the tone is really sassy. Jayden really knows how to tell someone off and then five minutes later smile ear to ear. The only flaw in this book was that it moved really quickly through Jayden’s life and the story got a bit confusing. If the author explained Jayden’s earlier years more thoroughly, the book would have been easier to comprehend.…

Some books lead you into imaginary worlds and others into reality. If all the books in the world disappeared, I would keep The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger. On a two day odyssey through New York during Christmas break, the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, 17, experiences a drastic change leading him into adulthood. After his brother 's death, Holden shows many symptoms of depression. Speaking to the audience in first person in a "hospital", Holden is able to strongly convey his feelings.…

Written in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Gillman, “The Yellow Wall-paper” is an important piece in the naturalist movement, illustrating the difficulty of being a mentally ill woman in the late 19th and early 20th century. The novella portrays a young woman suffering from postpartum depression who is slowly loosing her sanity. As was custom at the time, the narrator was confined to a room to rest and essentially wait out her depression. Even though this method was highly ineffective, the women it was being used on had no say in the matter because they were deemed mentally ill. This piece was written to illustrate how detrimental this form of treatment was to those who had to suffer through it.…

The Effects of Sexual Abuse in Perks of Being a Wallflower Charlie, the lead character in Stephen Chboksy’s Perks of Being a Wallflower, has a best friend who committed suicide the year before he would have entered high school with him. The reason is never revealed in Perks, but it can be inferred he had family troubles. This is considered a realistic scenario in our society. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people age fifteen to nineteen, and as a society, people have recently come together and recognized it as a problem that must dealt with, and it has been deemed “mainstream” enough to be considered appropriate to talk about in teenage literature. Why, then, is sexuality and the abuse that can come with it - a problem nearly…
